In reply to the discussion: Elizabeth Warren praises a segregationist...major gaffe [View all]frazzled
(18,402 posts)When Joe Biden was working with segregationist senators like Eastland in the 1970s to get legislation passed, Elizabeth Warren was a Republican. Having come of voting age in 1970, she would presumably have cast a vote for Richard Nixon, who famously made racist comments, conducted a dog whistle racist campaign in the South, and advocated theories that equated race with IQ. And she would have presumably voted for Gerald Ford (who probably was not so racist), Ronald Reagan, who compared Africans to monkeys, and George HW Bush, with his Willie Horton ad.
Whether she herself held these views (and its quite possible she did not), by affiliating herself with the Republican Party until the mid 1990s, she was enabling senators and presidents to promote racist policies.
So can we forget the gaffes and call it even?
primary today, I would vote for: Joe Biden
