(128,150 posts)25. Keep in mind that Bernie made this proposal after Russia invaded the Crimea.
Cooperating with Russia at that time would have given Russia the message that it is okay to invade foreign countries, that the U.S. doesn't care about Ukraine, and that the U.S. will conduct business with Russia as if the invasion hadn't occurred. Is that the screwed up message that President Obama wanted to convey on behalf of the United States? The GOP would have thrown Obama and the Democrats under the bus for that one and they wouldn't have needed to help Trump to win the election.
