Democratic Primaries
In reply to the discussion: A compilation of oppo research on Bernie Sanders [View all]Gothmog
(175,331 posts)I have worked on campaigns and I understand the purpose of this memorandum and how it was prepared The purpose of this memorandum to was summarize the oppo research gathered by the Clinton campaign in case sanders every became a serious candidate or had some chance of winning the nomination. The Clinton campaign never had to use this oppo research because sanders was such a weak candidate that he was mathematically eliminated by the results of the Super Tuesday primaries.
This memorandum was a summary of a ton of opposition research compiled by the Clinton campaign to determine what matewrial or lines of attack could be used if sanders every proved to be a serious candidate. Each of the points raised was backed up by files that could be turned into attack ads or attack piece fed to the press. If sanders had been a real serious threat, the Clinton campaign would select the items to be used and use the back up for each of these items.
I have no doubt that Marc Elias was involved in the research of this memorandum. I was part of the Clinton Victory Counsel project where we reviewed 7000+ lawsuits where trump or one his affiliates were a party. The data collected in that project is part of the DNC War room https://politicalwire.com/2019/09/08/inside-democrats-2020-trump-war-room/
This new plan shows what Democrats think Trumps biggest vulnerabilities will be. And unlike in 2016, Trump now has a policy record.
The research includes roughly 7,000 lawsuits, as well an extensive document detailing every time then-candidate Trump told supporters at his 2016 campaign rallies that Mexico would pay for the wall.
A source familiar said this document will likely find its way to local reporters, groups and Democrats in battleground states as Trump diverts funds from the military to pay for his border wall.
I only reviewed 150 lawsuits and there was formal report done on each lawsuit that would not mean much to a layperson but these materials are now available to be use by Biden when he is the nominee. The memorandum set forth in the OP is merely a summary of what was available to be used but there was never an intent to use the memorandum directly against sanders.
Again, this memorandum was for use in the campaign to plan a campaign against sanders that was never needed. If you had ever worked on a campaign or if you understood the purpose of this memorandum you would understand that it is well written.
primary today, I would vote for: Joe Biden
