He appears to be saying that bothering "pleasantries" like saying happy birthday is pandering and fake, and gets in the way of being focused on the big problems in the world.
So there's that.
And I guess all these people who worked for him were "childish" and before you again try to dismiss these the things reported by staffers as "attacks on Sanders' candidacy from people who don't agree with his ideas" because they didn't come to light until a journalist thought it was relevant because Sanders became a POTUS candidate...and was performing due dilligence that the press is supposted to do...stop and recall that one of the GOP attacks on Christine Blasey Ford and Anita Hill was - "why did you wait to come forward with this until he was up for SCOTUS?"
"As a supervisor, he was unbelievably abusive," says one former campaign staffer, who claims to have endured frequent verbal assaults. The double standard was clear: "He did things that, if he found out that another supervisor was doing in a workplace, he would go after them. You can't treat employees that way."
................................................
"I think he's got a ton of conviction," the same former Senate staffer says. "I just think he's kind of harsh to a fault. He's so focused on his issues that he doesn't have a softer side. I don't think he's a very nice man."

Seriously. if this was anyone else on the Democratic ticket, it would be called "disqualifying." One incident with a salad, and Klobuchar is damned as "abusive":

Long time progressive Congressman Barney Frank was commenting on "Bernie alienating his natural allies" back in the 90's when they were in Congress together. Was Rep. Frank perhaps a clairvoyant that foresaw a Sanders POTUS run, and was simply "childishly attacking" to tank it all those years ago?
Why would the editor of the Burlington Free Press when Bernie was mayor have any reason be "childish" and dishonest about his and other's experiences with Sanders?
"Here's my problem with Bernie Sanders. With few exceptions, I agree with his positions on issues. But I don't like him or his political temperament."
You are dismissing many, many people who have worked with and for Sanders over the years in DC and Vermont as "childish" for voicing this observation about Sanders. If that's the case, isn't that a rather dim view of the choice of people Sanders hires or works with?
primary today, I would vote for: Joe Biden

It's about ideology first, and last. To be fair, I wouldn't be holding out hope

Like the Cenk endorsement - it appears to be about personal loyalty first and foremost.

It's a fact that Bernie's campaign leaders urged people to vote for Jill Stein.

"A touch of arrogance?" "Neglect?" That's what prevented HRC from being in the WH right now?

Childish was saying that "nobody likes him." I mean, even children think that's childish.

It is sexist to call a woman "childish" because you disagree with something she said.

I'm fine with Tlaib issuing an apology, that would be classy, but Hillary also should've apologized

I agree, and while I don't think it will happen, if it does, it needs to be short and to the point,
