(17,131 posts)I don't live in her district, but spent much of my life in Metro Detroit. While she is passionate, she comes across a too coarse and crude IMO, which negates her message to some extent. Stating at her inauguration "Impeach the Motherfucker" got her a lot of cheers, but I don't think it was necessary at that time and place.
I also don't think she did herself any favors last fall when she was planning a visit to Israel and Palestine. Initially got her permission revoked by Israel as she had previously indicated her desire to participate in protests while she was there. Her point was that as a US Government representative, Israel owed her the respect of allowing her into the country which made perfect sense.
It was what happened after that where it became somewhat ridiculous. She wrote an emotional letter to the Israeli government asking to be admitted for humanitarian reasons to visit her elderly grandmother, who she was very close to, stating that she might not see her ever again, and that she would respectfully not participate in any protests while she was there. Israel agreed to her request, but she then completely changed her mind, and said, she would not go under any circumstances, as it would be disrespectful to her grandmother to go under those conditions, if she couldn't express herself politically. So much for wanting to see her grandmother I guess. All she did was make herself look foolish for getting what she asked for, and then changing course 180 degrees when she got it.
Now we have this incident... I hope she gets beat in the primary, but not holding my breath based on previous elections in Detroit.
primary today, I would vote for: Undecided
