because of the grass roots campaigning and meeting directly with as many voters as possible. And having passionate supporters convince others to vote for their candidate. It worked for Obama in 2008.
Larger states would give the advantage to candidates with a lot of financing and establishment support.
Mayor Pete is good people. I hope he has a bright future ahead.

In Iowa, at least one caucus attendee changed her vote from him when she found out he was gay.
