(713 posts)Sanders beat Hillary in the Wisconsin and Michigan Primaries in 2016. Trump went on to narrowly win those states over Hillary in the General Election. So, Sanders had more working class support in those Rust Belt states than Hillary. Bernie might have beaten Trump in those states had he been the nominee.
Also, a large part of the 3 Million votes that Hillary had over Trump came from coastal liberal strongholds like California and New York. To win the Presidency, you have to win in the Electoral College, and that includes fly-over states and the Rust Belt/Mid-West.
Bernie has some appeal to these kind of Mid-West working class demographics that Hillary did not. And so, Bernie has a chance to win Wisconsin, Michigan, and other key states. There is a potential path to victory there.
