(3,363 posts)Bernie is dominating the youth vote by massive margins. They were the largest voting block in 2018, and millions and millions more have reached 18 since then. He's by far the top choice among Hispanics, which make up a sizable portion of the electorate, especially in states like Nevada, Arizona, California, Texas, New Mexico, Florida, etc. Polling shows him beating Trump by 18 among independents. He does quite well with African Americans, maybe not #1 yet, but I believe he's #2. He's the only candidate who has been able to outreach with non-typical Democratic voters. Biden told a more conservative voter to go vote for Trump. Bernie hired him on his campaign.
And nobody in the race is filling stadiums with tens of thousands of people or generating the enthusiasm we saw with Obama like Bernie is.
Maybe it requires a populist to beat another populist. No Centrist has won the General election this century. We tried the Biden/Klobuchar/Buttigieg approach numerous times in recent elections, and they all failed. Maybe we should try something different?
primary today, I would vote for: Undecided
