(374 posts)What I do love are his priorities.
Both the stuff he chooses to focus on, and the stuff he doesn't. That's a big part of the job.
I think that's probably the big factor people are missing here. There's choices the party has made that weren't smart on that score, and there's not really an open discussion about such things among the hyper-partisan. You get locked in to positions by following a narrative and supporting its authors.
Most of the things he gets criticized for in terms of party and agenda purity are positives from my perspective, either policy wise or in terms of political capital.
The unfortunate things he's said over the years don't weigh as heavily as people seem to think, he's been open and honest about his views for decades, and I'm pretty sure I said and did stupider stuff 40 years ago.
Look at how Americans feel about congress, even democratic congress. That's why the supposed safe bet isn't safe. Bloomberg isn't safe at all, he's a disaster, and the people supporting him thinking he'll appeal to independents must have a serious misunderstanding of why they're not partisans.
I'm older, but I also think ecology is a big factor in the way younger people are looking at things, we don't have another generation to dither away.
primary today, I would vote for: Joe Biden
