In fact, a lawyer might be more aware that a different country has different laws. Sometimes when a lawyer, you are asked about laws in other countries or even states and you have to explain you are only admitted to the bar of the states for which you passed the bar exam. A Delaware lawyer is no more a lawyer in South Africa than any other person who is not a lawyer. You're a layperson is every jurisdiction where you are not admitted. And other countries can be completely different. The US system is based on the English common law, so there could be some familiarity there but other countries don't even have that and are based on something different.
