(9,497 posts)I think both parties overlooked the lowest tier of donors. Neither cared and thought those voters had no where else to go. Well, the Right rejected Jeb and the Left rejected Hillary. There were a lot of people who sat out and people who had never join in who did.
I had a roommate during the first George Bush election. I am sure he voted for Trump. Anyway, we would have political discussions and I was worried until he confessed he didn't vote. Then I really just listened to try to understand his white man pain. But as the years wore on, I imagine his "pain" wasn't alleviated and I believe he voted and it was for Trump.
People who feel marginalized do unexpected things, like Trump, Columbine, run for office, get married...you just never know what they will do to break a cycle of feeling not worthy.
