10. Are you asking who he thought he could have picked up by talking to the NABJ had he not screwed up?

He thought he was making inroads with black voters. He was thinking that by saying Harris isn't really black, more black people would turn against her. I think he also thought if he attacked blacks to their face he could change the narrative to moderates taking his side because he is white and he just assumes most white people are like him deep down with some racist tendencies.
