More than 75,000 Palestinians were killed in the first 15 months of Israel's military assault on Gaza, a figure far higher than the 49,000 deaths Gazan health officials announced for that period, according to a new study by The Lancet Global Health medical journal.
The peer-reviewed study, published Wednesday, found women, children and the elderly comprised 56.2 per cent of violent deaths in Gaza during that period, roughly aligning with reporting by Gaza's health ministry.
The field work was conducted by the Palestinian Center for Policy and Survey Research, run by Palestinian pollster Khalil Shikaki, who has carried out public opinion polling in the West Bank and Gaza for decades. The lead author is Michael Spagat, a professor at Royal Holloway, University of London.

In fact, Netanyahu - and the US - have known for months that Hamas does not know the whereabouts of some of the deceased hostages and may not be able to return them all. Also, Hamas has openly said in recent days and also informed the negotiators, that due to the extensive destruction of Gaza, more time is needed to located the bodies. Witkoff even raised the issue with the hostage families on the weekend.
It's clear to me the 72-hour demand for all the hostages was an intentional trap and Israel now has its first pretext to breach the ceasefire and/or continue the starvation. Expect more of these shenanigans by Israel, until the genocide is allowed to resume and the ethnic cleansing commences.
I hope I am wrong?

Israel cuts agreed aid into Gaza over slow release of hostage bodies
GENEVA/UNITED NATIONS, Oct 14 (Reuters) - Israel will only allow half the agreed number of aid trucks into Gaza starting Wednesday, according to a note seen by Reuters and confirmed by the United Nations, in a setback to hopes food and supplies would be quickly ramped up to ease famine in the enclave.
COGAT, the Israeli military arm that oversees aid flows into Gaza, also notified the U.N. that no fuel or gas will be allowed into the enclave except for specific needs related to humanitarian infrastructure. COGAT did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
COGAT blamed Hamas for a slow release of hostage bodies for the decision to limit aid trucks to 300 daily. The Islamist militant group has said locating the bodies is difficult.

Explosions and drones targeting Gaza aid flotilla boats, activists say
Guardian staff and agencies
Wed 24 Sep 2025 01.47 BST
Just reported...
Organisers of a Gaza-bound flotilla carrying aid and pro-Palestinian activists have reported explosions and multiple drones that targeted some of their boats, currently situated near Greece.
Multiple drones, unidentified objects dropped, communications jammed and explosions heard from a number of boats, the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) said in a statement. We are witnessing these psychological operations first-hand, right now, but we will not be intimidated.
The German human rights activist Yasemin Acar said in a video she posted on Instagram that five vessels had been attacked.
In an earlier video, Acar said the activists had sighted 15 to 16 drones, adding that their radios had been jammed as loud music could be heard.
One video posted by the flotillas official Instagram page showed an explosion it said it recorded from the Spectre boat.
In another video posted by the same page, the Brazilian activist Thiago Avila said four boats had been targeted with drones throwing devices just before another explosion was heard in the background.

Panic as Israel Warns High Rises in Gaza City Will Be Struck With Minutes to Get Out
GAZA CITYAfter the Israeli military announced that a multi-story residential tower in Gaza was about to be targeted in an airstrike, families in Gaza screamed as they hurled their belongings out of their windows on Sunday.
The Al-Mahna building in Tal Al-Hawa, a southern neighborhood in Gaza City, was sheltering dozens of Palestinian families who are remaining in the face of Israels scorched earth campaign to seize control of the city. The Israeli military, which began its ethnic cleansing of the one million estimate residents of Gaza City last month, has destroyed hundreds of towers and homes in Gaza City, reducing dozens of high rise buildings to rubble and re-displacing hundreds of families in nearby tent encampments.
Men, women, and children scrambled out of the Al-Mahna building in utter panic, carrying whatever belongings they could salvagethin mattresses, suitcases, baskets, and plastic chairs. People began throwing mattresses and bags out of the windows of the 12-story building, where clothes could be seen still hanging to dry in the balconies. The belongings crashed to the ground, putting people exiting the structure in danger. A woman screamed, What is happening? as she ran into the street. One man collapsed in despair, crying, I cant, I swear I cant, before his friends picked him up off the ground.
Shortly afterwards, a massive airstrike hit the upper floors of the building, filling the surrounding streets with debris and smoke. The Al-Mahna tower was one of at least three high-rise towers targeted by the Israeli military on Sunday, including a building on the campus of Islamic University, the Al-Kawthar tower in western Gaza City, and the al-Munawwarah City building.

The Israeli army took over my home, used it like a hotel, then set it on fire
Nasser Faratawi holds up a blackened garland of silicone flowers and a singed Ramadan lantern as he picks through the charred ruins of what was his popular party shop in Tulkarm in the north of the occupied West Bank.
Upstairs, on the three floors of what were his family's luxury apartments, graffiti is scrawled on the walls including drawings of penises in a living room and his daughter's bedroom.
Expensive furniture has been broken or thrown out of the window, fancy decorations ripped out, every page of a Quran torn, and it stinks of rotten leftover food.
"They came and destroyed me," Nasser tells me. "It's all seen as destroyable because I live in this city - because I am Palestinian."

So Israel has stopped all food and other aid going into Gaza City where about a million people, half of them facing famine, are sheltering amid the 24-hour aerial bombardments (I mean Palestinians don't need to eat, right?) It plans to "evacuate them - at least those still alive - to the Rafah area, where there are NO hospitals in operation or basic services necessary for human life. Remember, Israel has turned Rafah into rubble - Rafah of the famous "red line" - and replaced the infrastructure with absolutely nothing, all while enticing the starving with promises of "enhanced services". We saw an example of the "enhanced services" the other day, when 9 people including 5 children were massacred while fetching water - in a supposed safe humanitarian zone.
After having bombed the WHO's Gaza warehouse in July and destroying surgical and trauma supplies, medication, and treatment for malnourished children; after imposing custom fees and military escort requirements on aid agencies attempting to get supplies in through Jordan; after cancelling all air drops about a week ago; after denying 29 NGOs entry with lifesaving aid; after shutting down over 400 aid distribution sites and replacing it with 3 Death Traps known as the GHF, located a 6-hour walk from major population centres in the middle of war zones (where else, right?) where paltry aid is distributed within 23 agonizing MINUTES...
Israel has now devised yet another strategy to keep the hungry starving and deny medical help for the ill, wounded and dying. It is now demanding that aid group NGOs operating in Gaza re-register under new rules asking for personal data on all local and international staff and their FAMILIES. I can't think why most of the groups have rejected such a request, it's not like Israel goes around killing aid workers, and health workers etc and their families or something. /s
This is serious and very alarming. NGOs that do not comply with the new rule risk being shut down by Sept 9th. These NGOs - like Doctors without Borders - are the backbone of Gaza's diminishing medical system. Other aid groups provide much needed food aid - at least on the rare occasions that they have recently been allowed to enter.
This is absolute madness. I'm not talking now about Israel - a state that has been "mad" for awhile now - but the really disturbing reality that no one with any power, in the entire fricking Western world, seems to want to lift a finger to stop an actual genocide from happening and to help the unfortunate, tormented and endangered Palestinians.
Denying famine, Israel threatens more curbs on Gaza aid
AMMAN, Jordan As the Israeli military moves to displace the entire population of Gaza City, aid organizations are warning that the military offensive and new Israeli restrictions on aid groups due to be implemented next week will create an even bigger catastrophe in a territory already wracked with famine.
As part of its planned takeover of Gaza City, Israel has told residents to move south or risk being killed. But the International Committee of the Red Cross and others are warning that there is no safety, food, water or shelter in places where Israel is warning them to go.
It calls the evacuation warnings for Gaza's hundreds of thousands of civilians "incomprehensible."
After almost two years of war, aid providers say the health care system has collapsed, even as the number of injured, ill and starving Palestinians continues to rise sharply. The most prominent U.N.-backed global panel on hunger last month declared that conditions in Gaza City and the north had reached the level of famine and that it would spread to central and south Gaza by the end of this month if nothing is done.

He added that in his entire career he has never witnessed such a level of "brutality and use of indiscriminate and unnecessary force against a civilian population, an unarmed, starving population".

People, including babies and children, are dying from organ failure caused by starvation - at alarmingly accelerating rates over the last few days. Even doctors and medical staff are fainting on the job from hunger and exhaustion. A quarter of the population is facing near-famine with over 100,000 women and children at acute severe malnutrition. The last hope for salvation is being destroyed by Israeli forces: the critical humanitarian infrastructure at Deir al-Balah, including the WHO buildings destroyed in the last day.
Over a thousand people now have been butchered trying to get a sack of flour.
None of this is by accident.
Do the leaders of those 27 western countries that issues the joint "hard-hitting" statement yesterday have any intention of upholding their duties to prevent genocide under the Genocide Convention? Is that one of the "options" the EU has promised?
I suspect whatever option these "leaders" choose, it will be too little, too late. Any reckoning coming to them will not matter to those who have died and will die and the many more suffering agonies due to their inaction and/or complicity.
Global outcry grows over Israel's killing of starving civilians in Gaza
UN secretary general warns last lifelines may soon collapse after Israeli forces attack WHO facilities in Deir al-BalahSource: The Guardian
Israel is facing intensifying international condemnation for its killing of starving Palestinian civilians in Gaza, and its attacks on humanitarian efforts, as the UN secretary general, António Guterres, said the last lifelines keeping people alive [in the strip] are collapsing.
An angry chorus of senior figures, among them the UK foreign secretary, David Lammy, and a senior Catholic cleric, expressed on Tuesday a growing sense of global horror over Israels actions.
I spoke again with [the Israeli foreign minister] Gideon Saar to recall our understanding on aid flow and made clear that IDF [Israel Defense Forces] must stop killing people at distribution points, the EUs foreign policy chief, Kaja Kallas, wrote on X. The killing of civilians seeking aid in Gaza is indefensible.
She said all options were on the table if Israel does not deliver on aid pledges, but did not say what those options included.
...
Guterres comments came hours after a hard-hitting joint statement on Monday by 27 western countries including the UK, France, Australia and Canada harshly criticising Israels restrictions on humanitarian aid and calling for an immediate end to the war.

Why can't children play in the ocean or people be allowed to bathe? There is no functioning sanitation or water system, it's been destroyed.
Cruelty seems to be the point. Palestinians are being driven to their breaking point by these inhuman living conditions - until they become "willing" to "voluntarily migrate" aka ethnically cleanse themselves.
Meanwhile, there will be no swimming in a concentration camp.

'Are They Going to Ban the Air Next?' IDF Reiterates Ban on Gazans Entering the Sea, a Final Source of Relief for Many
The Israeli military issued a reminder to Palestinians in Gaza that accessing the Mediterranean Sea along the Gaza Strip is forbidden a rarely enforced restriction in place since the start of the war that will affect Palestinians who are already enduring acute water shortages, extreme summer heat and deteriorating humanitarian conditions in overcrowded tent camps.
--snip--
The policy was originally put in place on October 7, 2023 and has technically been in place since, although the Israeli army did not appear to enforce the ban against swimmers and bathers, only fishermen. The statement did not elaborate on the duration of the ban or the specific security concerns behind it, nor why the IDF is reiterating it now.

"I'm literally dizzy from hunger, thirst and the heat," said Rajaa Qudeih, a 31-year-old mother of two from Deir al-Balah. "Gaza is going through the worst famine, we haven't eaten, and we can't even find a piece of bread."
Her family, like many others, has been sheltering in a makeshift camp near the beach. The sea, she explained, was their only reprieve. "The sea was the only outlet left. If they kill us for going there, maybe that would be easier than this slow death," she said. "Still, I fear for my children. My oldest is nine. How can I convince him that swimming in the sea could get him killed?"
She added, "We are camped by the sea. Where else can we go? Are they going to ban the air from us next?"

Israeli strike kills nine of Gaza doctor's children, hospital says

BBC News
An Israeli air strike on Gaza hit the home of a doctor and killed nine of her 10 children, the hospital where she works in the city of Khan Younis says.
Nasser hospital said one of Dr Alaa al-Najjar's children and her husband were injured, but survived. Graeme Groom, a British surgeon working in the hospital, said he had operated on her surviving 11-year-old boy.
A video shared by the director of the Hamas-run health ministry and verified by the BBC showed small burned bodies being lifted from the rubble of a strike in Khan Younis on Friday.

Dr Muneer Alboursh, director of the health ministry, said on X that the al-Najjars' family house was hit minutes after Dr al-Najjar's husband Hamdi had returned home after driving his wife to work.
Dr Alboursh said the eldest of Dr al-Najjar's children was aged 12.
