Wyoming becomes latest state to ban gender-affirming care for minors
Source: The Hill
Wyoming became the latest state to prohibit gender-affirming care for minors, joining 23 other states in the country that passed laws restricting or banning the treatment.
...
The legislation would penalize pharmacists, doctors and other healthcare professionals for providing gender-affirming care to minors by revoking their licenses or outright banning them from practicing in the state.
Gordon said he supports the bills protections for minors, but added the new legislation means the government encroaching on the private matters of families.
I signed SF99 because I support the protections this bill includes for children, however it is my belief that the government is straying into the personal affairs of families Gordon said in a Friday statement. Our legislature needs to sort out its intentions with regard to parental rights. While it inserts governmental prerogative in some places, it affirms parental rights in others.

We have a lot of small-L libertarian Republicans here, but they're totally cowed by the Freedom Caucus ... and Trump. We Democrats are a tiny minority in the state legislature, but a very hard-working minority, who very often have to work across the aisle with those libertarians to try to stop the worst of the worst legislation, or pass something less-bad, or maybe even good-ish. It only sometimes works.
Unfortunately, we're also one of those states that does not allow ballot initiatives for constitutional amendments.
Our state motto is, ironically, "Equal Rights".
Inside A Secret Society Of Prominent Right-Wing Christian Men Prepping For A 'National Divorce'
By Josh Kovensky
A secret, men-only right-wing society with members in influential positions around the country is on a crusade: to recruit a Christian government that will form after the right achieves regime change in the United States, potentially via a national divorce.
It sounds like the stuff of fantasy, but its real. The group is called the Society for American Civic Renewal (the acronym is pronounced sacker by its members). It is open to new recruits, provided you meet a few criteria: you are male, a trinitarian Christian, heterosexual, an un-hyphenated American, and can answer questions about Trump, the Republican Party, and Christian Nationalism in the right way. One chapter leader wrote to a prospective member that the group aimed to secure a future for Christian families.
Its an uncanny mimicry of the clandestine engine that, in the right-wings furthest imaginings, has driven recent social changes and left them feeling isolated and under siege: a shadowy network occupying the commanding heights of business, politics, and culture, open only to a select, elite few, committed to reshaping the United States to align it with the groups radical values.
The men TPM has identified as behind this group and they are all men have a few things in common. Theyre all a certain kind of devout Christian traditionalist. They are white. They have means, financial and social, and are engaged in politics.

A new NYT/Siena poll has people freaking out again. But they shouldn't.
TL;DR: Don't just "ignore the polls"... DEBUNK THEM.
It seems no matter how often I beat the drum about the polls being unreliable, premature and wrong, it doesnt allay peoples fears enough. Talk of ditching Biden then ensues, which of course is not going to happen. We should just stop any discussion of it right now if we know whats good for us.
So what about this poll? Isnt the NYT / Siena a reliable indicator? They wouldnt publish something that is basically false information, right?
Polls arent false. They report what people actually told the pollsters. But they can be misleading, and they are often faulty. Importantly, we shouldnt trust any polls to be predictive of the final result when there are still more than 200 days to go till the election and a whole lot of unknowns. But let me focus in particular on this poll and what some experts on polling and methodology are saying about it. I hope you come away with the same conclusion I did: that this is some data, yes, but its not very reliable or useful except to make big headlines.

In this media environment, any worthy candidate needs a front-man.
Some asshole to spout platitudes, bumper-sticker slogans, bullshit, and talking-points at whoever happens to be listening -- playing some "numbers game" without regard to anything remotely resembling strategy or even fucking tactics. Just throwing as much spaghetti at the wall as you can as fast as you can until everyone is completely exhausted.
Tell me I'm wrong.
