IGoToDU
IGoToDU's JournalProp 50 opinions, please?
Had occasion to talk on the phone this morning with my wonderfully smart and kind, dearest friend from my college days. (A lifelong Dem who has walked their talk as an activist for decades.) We hadnt caught up since Election Day.
Fairly quickly, my friend expressed worry about how the success of Prop 50 will be very detrimental to us as the next year unfolds. Its gerrymandering. We are escalating the conflict. Stooping to their level. Theyre going to say they can do it too. Then went on to say the enacting of Prop 50 wasnt in keeping with MLKs tradition of achieving lasting success through nonviolent means. After all, look at the success of the Hands Off and No Kings peaceful protests. Why on earth should we do what they (the Reps/MAGATs) did?
It was early this morning, and I found myself feeling quite unprepared for the discussion; and told my friend so. And that I was going to read and research and get opinions from trusted colleagues and we could revisit the subject.
I am not lazy intellectually. I am committed to continue researching this. Was prop 50 all about Trump v California? Will it prove to be only a short term victory?
May I ask you all? How might you see Prop 50 as a wedge issue that may backfire on us Democrats? How will it make this upcoming year (which is certainly bound to be really bad) even worse? Was it appropriate restitution for blatant disregard of the rights of American voters all over the United States? How do you see it vis a vis what its success will mean (help or hindrance) for we Democrats moving forward toward the Primaries next year?
Thank you so much for adding to what I know.
As my handle IGoToDU indicates, I see DU like a/my university where I go to partake of higher level thought and intellect. To learn and grow. Minds are like parachutes, they only function while open.
Thank you for any and all of your input on how you see what Prop 50 is and what it could and might bring forth in the year to come.
Social Media Post: Hair on Fire?
A high school friend of mine and fellow lib. posted this on social media. While I have been doing exactly what my friends post recommends for months now, and not to seem like a lazy brain because I could certainly look for the answer myself!, would anyone like to give me/us their two cents worth? How seriously are you considering a possible international move while its still iof your own free will?)
Heres the post. No attribution attached. Please, if it is against the rules to post this, let me know/take it down.
[Get backup plans ready-financial transfers to international banks, important papers like stocks and life insurance in hands of family orfriend so you'llhave access once established as an ex-pat because TRUMP CAN NOW LEGALLY DEPORT AMERICAN CITIZENS!! Hurt his wittle feewings and you'll be deported.
WOW.
If deported, you'll lose your citizenship, any claims to federal benefits like social security and they will probably try to confiscate any assets like home, bank accounts and vehicles.
PREPARE PEOPLE]
Justice desperately needed for all the "Pats": yet another heartbreaking illustration of why we must get single payer!
Took my godson to the General Hospital in our hometown yesterday, and walked out crying, not for him!, but for a lady named Pat. Thats all I know of her name.
My godson and I had been waiting for so many hours in the ER waiting room and it progressively got so crowded as to make me claustrophobic. I noticed there were a few other smaller seating areas that were not as crowded and I asked at the desk if we could move over there, and much to my relief, the answer was yes.
And the dreadful story begins.
We met Pat, sitting in a wheelchair, definitely in her 80s, and who may have had a stroke, who was there with her son. He had to go do something and she expressed anxiety about him leaving so I leaned over and said I can keep your mom company until you come back. Which was fine with the son, as you will find out.
While we talked, Pat, who was definitely confused and didnt really know where she was, repeated over and over to me how horrible it is to be old, that she wished she was young again, that she was frustrated because the doctors had asked her questions and she couldnt answer them. Pat also talked about her kids and said that her son was the only one who would take care of her and that she felt scared when he wasnt there. Pat was also talking about having never been here before and said it seemed like a nice place. She asked me if I would be there next week and I hated to tell her no.
My godson struck up a brief conversation with the son when he returned, and to make a very long story shorter, we found out why he had brought his Mother to the ER. He said it wasnt safe for Pat at home and that he was poor, AND THIS WAS WHY HE WAS LEAVING HIS MOTHER AT THE HOSPITAL. As if it was a shelter for homeless pets! When the nurse came to get us, I told her about what was happening with Pat and she said these are the saddest situations. PLURAL?!?
I asked what would happen to Pat and the nurse told me the hospital would keep her for a week or two and hopefully find a placement for her. HOPEFULLY?!?!?
Yes
I know horrible things are happening everywhere
and we all know its just a matter of time till we are confronted directly with, or witness to, them. But my God, having just lost my own darling 92-year-old mom 7 months ago, who lived with me and my kiddo the seven years since my dads death and until her own, it.hit.so.hard.
At least two hours later my godson was discharged (a worse situation ruled out, thankfully), and as we were leaving, there was Pat. Sitting all by herself.
My godson was itchy to leave and I did not go over to her. I can still see her sitting there, all alone, right where she had been when I first met her. No sign of her son.
I just cant stop thinking about Pat, more than 24 hours later. Ive told a few people the story today. One of my friends said she was surprised that I hadnt brought Pat home with me (that thought had definitely occurred!) A few hours after I got home yesterday I called the hospital and told the operator what I had witnessed and how concerned I was. She transferred me to the ER, and the very nice person who answered the phone said it was fine to talk for a few minutes. He listened sympathetically and even went so far as to tell me there were five Pats on the list he was looking at, which Im not sure was just the ER or the entire hospital patient list(?) He said this was all he could do for me, and that I should pray for Pat. I asked him to please check on her, and ask other employees to do so too, in light of the circumstances. I also asked if I might call back the next day and talk to a social worker. He said he didnt see why not. Of course I called my friend, who has worked in healthcare administration for decades, this morning. She told me that if anyone at the hospital gave me any identifying information that it would be illegal. She told me all I could really do was pray for Pat.
Life does have to go on, but I cant stop thinking about Pat. If she is bound for a public assistance nursing home facility, I would like to visit her. I AM going to call the hospital tomorrow morning and ask to talk with the social worker. I can update this after I do so to let you know what happens. I know there isnt any way for anyone to really talk me off of this ledge, but then again, it isnt about me at all. (Well, in the future, it most certainly could be!) I plan to write to our local, state, and federal representative-critters. And of course, I would love for you all to give me any other ideas. Please, keep Pat and everyone else dealing with these dire situations in your thoughts and LETS SPEAK UP FOR THEM!
Optional photographing by TSA
I am currently leaving Baltimore, Washington, International Airport, and still feeling pretty salty. I know its coming upon all of us to be well briefed on situations where we encounter government these days, and I truly wish I had thought to do the research before I was in the situation!, But as I was stepping up to TSA pre-boarding, I was told I needed to step in front of the screen for a photo to be taken, and I did not even see beneath where the lens was to take the picture that in parentheses it said optional. By then, the agent had already taken my photo. Please forgive me if this subject has been discussed already on DU. I just feel like I need to comfort of all of you around me right now because Im feeling like I just put myself in some kind of situation of danger.
COSTCO Corporate Phone Number for DEI Support Comment (425)313-8100
I realize the stock holders vote has already taken place and the results are shaky so I thought I would share my story and the phone number for public comments.. I recently (re) joined COSTCO. When I was standing at the membership counter I remarked that COSTCOs continued support for DEI practices was the reason I wanted to do business there and that I certainly hoped that would continue. I asked her if she knew if it would. She said that she did not know but that the issue was open to public comment. THE NUMBER TO CALL IS (425) 313 8100. We all know what to do. Thank you all!
Hello from Walz Fetterman Rally in York, PA!

$2B from Saudi?
Hello allplease forgive if Ive posted this in the wrong spot (?) and if I somehow missed an update on this? What about that exorbitant gift ? Has *anyone* been talking about it? Can someone please educate me? Could it be used by TSF to make bond? Who has it and where is it and what is it (going to be) used for? What are the strings attached to it? Has or is anyone investigated/investigating it? If yes, who, and where can this be read? If not, why??? I feel really curious. Thank you. Love, IGoToDU
Rachel Maddow's Book Tour
I went to her first in Philadelphia today. Highly recommend!!! Was hoping she *might* talk a little news or politics but just as I figured, she did not. Still, great experience.

Orange Mussolini is "speaking" maybe three miles from me. These jerkwads cheering Cheetolini calling it "The China virus" and laughing while he insults Joe & KAMALA are going to be infecting my grocery store, all the stores & restaurants, and our small Hospital soon enough. And he blathers on and on. Praising the Amish. Calling E. Warren "Pocohontas". Same old shit about COVID. Bragging about the doctors and treatment he got at Walter Reed (the local chumps clap for that).
