'After the Senate voted to debate the sweeping and restrictive voter ID bill, Democrats decried the legislation on Capitol Hill today. At a rally opposing the Save America act, Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer slammed GOP lawmakers for bringing the bill to the upper chamber floor: “They’re trying to dupe America. They say, ‘oh, this is just a voter ID law.’ Bullshit!”

'The top Democrat in the Senate said that the bill –which would require voters to provide proof of citizenship when they register and to present approved identification when they go to the polls – is the president and Republicans’ attempts to “fix the election”.

“Because they know damn well that if the election were held today they would lose,” Schumer added. “It is Jim Crow 2.0, but it’s spread across the whole country.”

'The US House passed the bill earlier this year, but it faces steep odds in the Senate, where it would need 60 votes to overcome the filibuster rule.

'Iran has appealed to the United Nations to condemn the United States and Israel for a “manifest environmental crime” over the bombing of fuel storage facilities in Tehran and other cities over the weekend.

'The attacks led to the falling of acid rain across Tehran, as well as the spreading of clouds of smoke so thick they blocked out the sun and caused respiratory problems and skin irritation to residents.'

"If Pam Bondi’s goal when testifying before Congress on Wednesday was to put to rest the controversy over her department’s mishandling of the Epstein files, she failed badly.

"But if the attorney general just wanted to impress Donald Trump, she probably succeeded.

"In more than five hours of testimony before the House Judiciary Committee, Bondi defended the president, personally insulted lawmakers and literally kept her back turned on survivors of Epstein’s abuse.

"The attorney general is not the president’s personal consigliere."

"If the attorney general will not turn around and face the victims standing behind her, the American people must face what that means about the Trump administration.

"The Epstein files are not going away. Neither is the demand for justice."

Tim Walz's Op Ed vs. DJT and ICE in WSJ

'Minnesota governor Tim Walz called the Trump administration’s immigration crackdown in the state “chaos,” “illegal,” and “unAmerican” in an op-ed in the Wall Street Journal today.

“The Trump administration’s assault on Minnesota long ago stopped being a matter of immigration enforcement. It is a campaign of organized brutality against the people of our state. It isn’t just. It isn’t legal. And, critically, it isn’t making anyone any safer,” said Walz in the op-ed.

“That isn’t effective law enforcement. It isn’t following the rule of law. It’s chaos. It’s illegal. And it’s unAmerican” he added. “This assault on our communities is not necessary to enforce our immigration laws. We don’t have to choose between open borders and whatever the hell this is.”

'The family of the woman shot dead by an ICE agent last week has hired the law firm that represented George Floyd’s loved ones after his killing by police in the same city in May 2020.

'Chicago-based firm Romanucci & Blandin has said it is investigating Good’s tragic death on behalf of her family.

This past year has seen our Government engage in unprecedented acts, including against our own citizens. People have been seized by masked federal agents from their homes, their workplaces, and the streets of their communities. Students and scientists with visas permitting them to study and work here have been deported without due process. The people who laid siege to the U.S. Capitol have been pardoned and called heroes. Agencies vital to the country’s national security have been dismantled. Universities, media companies, and law firms have been subjected to threats to their funding, access, and licensing unless they made concessions and surrendered their right to constitutionally protected free speech. American troops have been deployed on the streets of our towns and cities. The Justice Department has been used as a weapon, at the direction of the President, to pursue political opponents. And most recently and searingly, an ICE agent killed an unarmed mother only days ago.
