Jrose's Journal'Ex-cop sues after arrest over anti-Trump meme'
'Larry Bushart spent 37 days in jail on a $2 million bond after posting a meme on Facebook in the wake of Charlie Kirks killing that quoted Donald Trumps response to a different shooting.
The quote? We have to get over it.
I spent over three decades in law enforcement, and have the utmost respect for the law, Bushart said Wednesday. But I also know my rights, and I was arrested for nothing more than refusing to be bullied into censorship.
'Bushart and the Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression filed a federal civil rights lawsuit against Tennessee authorities alleging violations of his constitutional rights in retaliation for his protected speech.
If police can come to your door in the middle of the night and put you behind bars based on nothing more than an entirely false and contrived interpretation of a Facebook post, no ones First Amendment rights are safe, FIRE senior attorney Adam Steinbaugh said.

"I've given too much to this country to be silenced by bullies"
'Senator Kelly responds to secretary Hegseth
Earlier, we brought you the news that the Department of Defense is investigating veteran and sitting Democratic senator Mark Kelly.
'This, after the Arizona lawmaker joined five other members of Congress in telling active duty military to refuse illegal orders in a social media video.
'For his part, Kelly has responded in a statement. Secretary Hegseths tweet is the first I heard of this. I also saw the Presidents posts saying I should be arrested, hanged, and put to death, he wrote in a post on X. If this is meant to intimidate me and other members of Congress from doing our jobs and holding this administration accountable, it wont work. Ive given too much to this country to be silenced by bullies who care more about their own power than protecting the Constitution.'

Bravo to the brave and truly patriotic veterans who defend democracy and the Constitution, regardless of party.
Any government officials, celebrities or political figures who will oppose the full exposure of the Epstein files
should always be identified with a 'Scarlet letter': a permanent Capital 'E,' for Epstein aider and abettor, in front of their titles and names. Every time they are reported on and cited anywhere. Forever.

'Jeffries rebukes Republican claims that 'No Kings' protests are anti-American'
'Speaking on day 17 of the shutdown, House minority leader Hakeem Jeffries issued a sharp rebuke of claims by Republican lawmakers that the No Kings protests across the country this weekend are expressing hate and are likely to be violent.
Showing up to express dissent against an out-of-control administration, thats as American as motherhood baseball and apple pie, Jeffries said. Whats hateful is what happened on January 6. That was a hate America rally sponsored by Donald Trump and his sycophants.

Adam Kinzinger: "The GOP's Young 'Leaders' Aren't Kids - They're Adults Praising Hitler"
"Theres a world of difference between gallows humor and glorifying genocide one saves your sanity, the other kills your soul."
Adam Kinzinger
Oct 16, 2024
"Theres a line between dark humor and moral rot. Anyone whos served in combat, flown dangerous missions, or worked in high-stress environments knows that humorsometimes biting, sometimes absurdis how you cope with the unthinkable. Ive been in group chats with other pilots and soldiers that Id never want to see the light of day. But theres a world of difference between that and joking about gassing Jews, praising Hitler, or mocking people because of their race or gender. What came out of the leaked Young Republican chat group wasnt gallows humor. It was hatred wearing irony as a mask."

DJT's 'Antifa-fantasy' conference
A brilliant analysis by Holly Baxter of The Independent:
'"Trump just hosted an Antifa roundtable at the White House ... it was so much worse than youre imagining
Wake up, babe, new civil liberties infringement propaganda just dropped! Todays installment in Americas ongoing descent into farce brings us a White House press release about Antifa terror and a presidential roundtable devoted entirely to the group that famously isnt a real entity."'
Holly Baxter reports on a meeting which, at one point, appeared to position people protesting against Nazis in the Weimar Republic as the bad guys, and at another saw the president declare, We got rid of freedom of speech'

DJT's 'speech'(?!?) before hundreds of military personnel...
... today conjured up for me the image of a seven-year-old child who swallowed a bottleful of amphetamines, and blames his brothers and sisters for the pile of shattered toys that he broke.
Bernie Sanders on free speech
Sen. Bernie Sanders
@SenSanders
·"Freedom is not about saying nice things or agreeing with those in power.
It is not flattering the President of the United States.
It is the right to express your point of view without government interference.
We must not allow anybody to take that freedom away from us."
Observation from the NY Times re Podcast honoring Kirk
'Karoline Leavitt, the White House press secretary, just appeared on Charlie Kirks podcast that vice-president JD Vance is guest hosting today. With Stephen Miller also coming on, this is what seems to be happening now: Senior officials in the federal government have taken over a conservative media entity to talk about a crackdown on anti-conservative thought and speech, and they are introducing the idea that a vast leftwing movement directly led to Kirks assassination.
This comes as officials are still trying to discern the gunman's motive'
