MIButterfly
MIButterfly's JournalMartini UPDATE - the prognosis is not good.
Some of her test results were good and some of them weren't. Martini is in kidney failure and there really aren't any good options. I already vetoed surgery. She's so skinny I don't think she would survive any kind of surgery and if the spot is cancerous, I don't want her to get chemo. I'm all about quality of life and not quantity of life.
The vet wants to see her every three months now.
I hate that this is happening. I'm so scared. I just can't find the words right now. The pain is unbearable. I know it's irrational, but I keep thinking it's my fault.
Edited to add: the vet said she's in stage 2 kidney failure.
Martini's veterinary appointment today.
Since my vet's office will cancel your appointment if you're more than five minutes late, I made sure to get there at 2:50, only to find out that our appointment was at 3:30, not 3:00! The reminder they sent me said 3:30 and my calendar said 3:30, but for some reason, I thought it was at 3:00! Anyway, her blood pressure is normal (!); she's gained a couple of ounces (!); still has a heart murmur; but the kidney has gotten a little bigger (that's where the spot is). The vet gave her a senior workup; bloodwork; and checked her blood pressure. They want to monitor her every six months. I just finished paying off both cats' last vet appointments from last year 12 days ago, but what price do I put on their health?
When the vet tech brought her back to me, she said Martini is such a good girl (tell me something I don't know!) and she wished every cat was just like her (MY kitty!). She's always been pretty laid back, more of a go-with-the-flow kind of cat (except when I try to give her her medicine or put her in the crate, of course).
Tomorrow, I will get a call about her bloodwork and I know the drill: if a member of the staff calls, everything's okay and if the doctor calls, there's something wrong. Fingers crossed, it's the staff.
Final Jeopardy! March 3, 2026 - no spoiler -
Aha! I guessed the right answer! That doesn't happen very often at all.
Every once in a blue moon, I get it right when none of the contestants did. I chalked that up to being older than they were and I actually remember when whatever the clue was happened.
I just saw an ad for a Republican candidate for governor in Michigan.
It starts out with him saying Michigan needs a no holds barred governor like President Trump, even showing a picture of DJT. Really, seriously? Are there actually candidates at this late date that still think hitching their wagon to DJT is a winning strategy? Talk about out of touch. Don't get me wrong, I say keep it up, Loser.
He also claims his campaign promises are "rock solid conservative." There's something to brag about.
And far me be it for me to disparage anyone's looks, but he looks shady, slimy and downright scary. I wouldn't want to see him walking toward me on the sidewalk. If this is the best the Republicans have to offer, then the Democratic candidate should be a shoo-in, but then again, that's what I thought about Hillary Clinton and Kamala Harris against DJT, so what the hell do I know.
When I was in what they used to call junior high, I took Journalism classes
and we were always told that when we report a story, we should never slant it one way or the other; we should just report the facts and let the readers form their own opinions.
Did the the so-called reporters of today not take Journalism in the seventh grade? Or is it that they just don't teach it that way anymore? My Journalism teacher, Mrs. Palmer, would have a fit if any one of us wrote they way they do now.
I'm sitting here with my cats on either side of me.
I turned to Martini and I sang to her "you a kitten" (yes, I am that kind of crazy cat lady; thank you for asking) and she gazed back at me adoringly. I turned to Holly and sang to her "you a kitten" and she just kept staring straight ahead and then she turned her head away from me as if to say "oh no, she's acting stupid again."
Holly does not suffer fools gladly. She's above it all!
Martini has an appointment with the vet on Wednesday
(which is also my grandmother's birthday. Happy Birthday in Heaven, Droga Busia!). The vet wants to see her every six months. I'm not sure if it's to see how she's doing on the blood pressure medication or to check the progress of the spot on her kidney. I'll have to remember to ask her.
Please keep a good thought for my precious Martini. She still seems to be doing very well, except she doesn't run up and down the stairs like she used to. She walks slower now. Otherwise, she's the same old Martini she's always been, thank God!
I've always heard that there's good and bad in everyone
but for the life of me, I can't find one good thing about DJT. He doesn't have one single redeeming quality. You can't even say he's good to his dog because he doesn't have one. Why would he? That would involve actually caring about something other than himself. He is heartless; soulless; ignorant; petty; lustful; revengeful; self-absorbed; arrogant; unempathetic; uninterested and uninteresting; greedy; spoiled; ruthless; mean; intellectually incurious; selfish; gluttonous, etc. And a bully.
Those are qualities people actually WANT in a leader? How on God's green earth were there enough people in this country to elect such a despicable excuse for a human being to the most important job in the world? It boggles my little mind.
If I thought about it every day for the rest of my life, I still wouldn't be able to come up with one good thing about him.
But there will be a day where I'll say "HOT DAMN! It's about time!"
I'm just sayin'.
I just got back from Chicago and sat down on the couch.
My cats came to me almost immediately. I have Martini to the left of me and Holly to the right of me and they're both rubbing up against me. I guess they missed me as much as I missed them! I was only gone overnight.
This is something new. Usually, when I come home from a trip, as soon as I open the door, they start coming down the stairs, see it's me and then go running back up the stairs! "Oh #@$%, she's back!"
How affectionate they've become in their golden years. This makes me very happy. My sweet, sweet kitties. ❤️
I took my car in for maintenance yesterday and was very pleased to see that the TV was not on Fox alleged "news."
They had on HGTV where I watched a program about two guys rehabbing houses in Detroit. I tried going on my phone, but their WiFi wasn't secure and I tried reading the book I had brought with me but I was tired (had to get up early and hadn't slept well the night before) and it was making me too sleepy so I was glad to see something I could watch on the TV. I think I was the only one there who was watching; everyone else was on their phones or laptops.
I don't ever see Fox alleged "news" anywhere I go anymore, which is a good thing. It used to be everywhere. Now I see GSN, ESPN or HGTV.
