Haven't seen anyone mention those in ages

They’re a couple favorites. Add to that, Atlantis: The Lost Empire, Sinbad, Treasure Planet, Lilo & Stitch, Balto, Anastasia, Spirted Away, Howl’s Moving Castle, Spirit: Stallion of the Cimmaron, The Rescuers (both), The Great Mouse Detective, An American Tail, Brother Bear, Toy Story (all), Monsters Inc, Wall-E, Corpse Bride, Coraline, The Incredibles, Up, Shrek (mostly 1 & 2), Ratatouille, Ice Age, and The Land Before Time (select sequels as well), Silly Symphony’s ‘Music Land’, Melody Time’s ‘Once Upon a Wintertime’, Fantasia, Hercules, The Black Cauldron, A Brave Little Toaster (and ‘Goes to Mars’). Many others by Disney, Don Bluth, Pixar, and other studios, animators, and producers etc that don’t immediately come to mind.

Just a few

Love seeing lists like these to resurface old favorites. Some day I’ll sit down with someone and watch mutual favorites in no particular order together

Show them.

When our country went through one of its last great divides in the Civil War there were reconstruction efforts, selective pardons, blind eyes turned, and eventually capitulations made to the confederate grass roots groups such as the sons or daughters of the confederacy.

Reeducation was met with propaganda much like the propaganda and hose of falsification that the internet provides has following the uprising on January 6th.

The tides of regressive behavior, fascism, and infantile religious perspectives have not been cancelled out.

Recently on DU, Applegrove posted a link which I now use as my signature line here, because the World War II Army Education pamphlets, meant to educate the general infantry on the basics of what they were going to war for and what they faced abroad and at home or in the service, are still valid today and have become a critical foundation we can rely on.

It is my belief that when corporate and political bodies paid and worked to distribute clear falsehoods they became responsible for reparations owed to the American people and to their own constituents they lied to and used, and one of the ways is to show them. Not just quick bytes. Show them- what the lies were, how they drafted the deceptive alterations, how they countered messaging attempting to slow or remand the toxic spread, the chain of approvals and hubs, and show them the historical foundation which they violated. Show them how to discern the validity of the evidence and the invalid nature of the propagandistic channels eroding the idea that there are facts or basic truths or a history other than the fantasies they want or dwell on. They programmed millions to create and spread disinformation, it is only fair that they contribute to de-programming them using the same mediums and mechanisms that spread the poison.

Germany in the past generation created a model for this to address the aftermath of Naziism and the Berlin Wall reunification; let them learn from the recovered. Let us all find what works wherever it may be and make that part of the platform for Democracy.

You can narrow it to: "it can be smart to be shallow"

With wide ranging applications to MTG, Kevin, Ron, Trump, and others in a variety of situations endorsing and advising his shallow and dangerous approaches

“it can be smart to be shallow”… let’s ban books, MTG

“it can be smart to be shallow”… let’s collapse the economy to force kids, seniors, and the disabled to work, Kevin

“it can be smart to be shallow”… let’s round up anyone transgender and put them in camps in Florida, Ron

“it can be smart to be shallow”… let’s horde vaccines and make me president for life, Trump

One is hard but here goes...

“The day I realized it can be smart to be shallow was, for me, a deep experience."

-Donald Trump; Think Like a Billionaire, 2004

Another apt observation

It’s an emergency measure, in case anyone in power is hamstrung or reckless enough to unintentionally -or- to the amazement of everyone reasonable, intentionally drive us into default and we need to reset and stabilize the economy. There’s a reason why the post-civil-war amendments were passed, because of elements determined to drive us over the edge and into disunion. They have more technology, better transportation and communications, and superior firearms behind their attempts this time. That does not change the validity of the Constitution.

And the situation we are in in terms of our global economic impact does not change. So it’s not just our economy that crumbles, but every nation we have chosen to support. Who benefits from that other than oligarchs, regional thugs, and regimes determined to oppose our influence. The civil war was actually the only time in the past a change of government like that *could* have been initiated without influencing world matters and causing a scenario where much worse consequences unfolded across the world in the style of the initiation of the First World War. After the World Wars and the collapse or dissolution of the British Empire, the Qing Dynasty, and the insurgent Nazi Reich, Japanese Empire, and Soviet Union, we were it.

We built up the globe, with difficulty and opposition, and it was messy, but ripping the rug out now means something far harsher will step in as a consequence of the famines and structural failures already evident. We may not be able to fix everything right away with our Allies, but we can fix this.
