Brand New Yougov Primary Poll (TX-SEN): Talarico+13

Conducted Feb 26-March 2, it shows Talarico up 53-40 for tomorrow's open primary in Texas.

https://d3nnbamw3dez3b.cloudfront.net/documents/tx_ttw_20260226.pdf

Previous yougov poll conducted Feb 2-16 had Crockett up 56-44.

Harris endorsed Crockett on Feb 27, so depending on how many people it polled on Feb 26, it may or may not fully account for her endorsement of Crockett.

The Atlantic: Why I Got Thrown Out of a Jasmine Crockett Rally

For the past hour, I’d watched as Representative Jasmine Crockett riled up her supporters in deep-red Lubbock, where voters were thrilled to receive a visit from the Democratic Senate candidate. But afterward, as I attempted to join the other reporters interviewing the lawmaker, a woman with a badge approached me.

“Are you Elaine?” she asked. I recognized her from the entrance of the event, where I had identified myself as she’d waved me into the building’s press area. Yes, I answered. “Her team has asked you to leave,” she said. When I asked why, the staffer looked at her phone and read dutifully: “They just said, ‘Elaine from Atlantic, white girl with a hat and notepad. She’s interviewing people in the crowd. She’s a top-notch hater and will spin. She needs to leave.’”

I will, of course, own up to being a white woman wearing a Menards baseball cap. But “top-notch hater” is a distinction that I had never considered for myself. Last year, I wrote a profile of Crockett that displeased the congresswoman. I interviewed her several times for the story, but after she learned that I’d called some of her colleagues in Congress without asking her permission, she told me that she was “shutting down the profile and revoking all permissions.

This is the original poll I posted this about:

PPP conducted poll show 48% favorTalarico and 42% for Crockett. 10% Undecided.

Poll was conducted February 25

This is the second poll showing Talarico in the lead this month. The other released showed Crockett ahead by 56-44 pre-Colbert. Another showed Talarico ahead by 4 pre-Colbert.

Gonna be quite interesting to see how this turns out. Dem enthusiasm is through the roof...

Fun fact about the TX Senate primary: TX has open primaries

Open primaries mean that people can vote in any primary regardless of party.

A peculiar thing about the UT poll released is thatJasmine Crockett is pulling 77% of self identified conservatives and 66% of moderates. Curious how many of those people will actually vote for her in the general election. On the flipside Talarico brings in 60% of self described Independents in his support. Same question applies...

Super curious to see a post colbert poll to know how these numbers mightve shifted.

(TX US Senate Race)Texas Tribune: GOP backlash against Talarico's Insulin cap claim

“When I picked up my first insulin prescription, it cost me $684. I couldn’t afford that — most Texans can’t either,” Talarico, who has Type I diabetes, says in the 30-second ad, which is running on TV statewide and in major media markets through election day on March 3. “So when I got to the Texas House, I took on Big Pharma and capped insulin at $25 a month.”

The ad drew backlash last week from Republicans including Texas GOP Chair Abraham George, who demanded Talarico “stop misleading Texas voters by falsely claiming credit for Republican-led legislation.” Several GOP elected officials piled on to amplify the attack.

“Let’s set the record straight about how the price of insulin was lowered for Texans,” state Sen. Lois Kolkhorst, R-Brenham and chair of the Senate Health and Human Services Committee, posted on social media. “The truth is that you did not author the bill that passed in 2021.”

In her post, Kolkhorst noted she was the author of Senate Bill 827, the 2021 legislation that set a $25 cap on out-of-pocket costs for a 30-day supply of insulin for those on state-regulated health plans. She also credited former Rep. Eddie Lucio III, D-Brownsville, and Rep. Tom Oliverson, R-Cypress and then-chair of the House Insurance Committee, for the bill’s passage in the lower chamber.

🔥 🔥 In a statement, Talarico spokesperson JT Ennis said Talarico was “the first legislator to introduce a bill to cap monthly insulin prices in Texas, personally went desk to desk to build bipartisan support for the effort, and his viral diabetes story drew the national attention needed to get it passed.” 🔥 🔥

“Any victory this big can’t be achieved alone, and James has praised his colleagues for their work — but any assertion that he wasn’t instrumental to passing this bill is a flat-out lie,” Ennis said.

If this guy gets the nomination, he will destroy the current TX GOP from the inside out. They are absolutely terrified of him.

I wonder if instead of trying to impeach Trump after Dems have a majority in both chambers, maybe they should just

...impeach most of his cabinet until he doesnt have people hellbent on protecting him? With some luck, you'll see the government steadily brought back to the rule of law.

ETA: These are the people following illegal orders. They are also the low hanging fruit. What is the point of having the power to pass laws if the people tasked with execute the law, will deliberately break them in the first place? Especially when they were all specifically chosen for their willingness to indy follow insane orders?
