The Country was Fine 'til the Start of '09!

(First of all, I want to be recognized for the brilliant poetry of that headline. )

Seriously, though, in the five years I've been observing the rise of the Tea Party in your country, one question has persisted in my mind, a question which nobody---and I mean not one damn person---in that "movement" has been able to answer:

Where were they?

When George W. Bush was turning the surplus Clinton left him into the biggest debts and deficits in American history, where were they? Maybe my Canuck ass was too busy watching the Stanley Cup playoffs during the demonstrations against the Bush Administration's profligate spending.

When John Ashcroft was putting your constitution through the shredder, where were they? I swear I never saw one of these Tea Party Patriots shouting "Tyranny!" as their right were being stripped in the wake off 9/11.

Speaking of which, where were they when their government was spoonfeeding your country bullshit about the "immanent threat" posed by Saddam Hussein's Iraq? Where were they when the claims of Cheney/Rumsfeld/Wolfowitz/etc were starkly demonstrated to be untrue?

During the eight years that the U.S. government was siphoning their money to the rich, sending their sons and daughters to die for no good reason, curtailing the LIBERTIES they've been screaming themselves hoarse over since 20/01/09, bending and breaking every law it didn't like, and lying about the whole fucking mess, WHERE WERE THEY???

You know, and I know, and anyone not willfully blind knows the answer.

In fact, it's as simple as black and white, isn't it?

Russian diplomat stabbed near embassy in Ottawa [Canada]

Source: CBC News

There is no indication the stabbing of a Russian diplomat near his country's embassy in Ottawa on Friday morning was politically motivated, says Canada's minister of foreign affairs.

A 44-year-old man was taken to hospital with non life-threatening injuries after he was found with stab wounds at 400 Stewart St. in Sandy Hill, a neighbourhood that is home to many embassies.

Ottawa police have arrested a man in connection with the stabbing.

The investigation falls under the jurisdiction of the Ottawa police, said Minister of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development John Baird.

"We're obviously deeply, deeply disturbed by reports and our department has been in touch with the Russian Embassy," Baird said Friday afternoon. "Thus far, we have nothing to indicate this was anything to do with being politically motivated, a politically motivated incident in nature."

U.S. Could Offer Concessions If Putin Ignores Crimea Vote - Andrea Mitchell

Source: NBC News

LONDON - The United States and Ukraine's interim government could offer concessions to Vladimir Putin - but only if Russia ignores the outcome of Sunday's controversial referendum in Crimea, sources close to the talks said Friday.

The concessions would also depend on Russia not moving its forces any further into Ukraine.

U.S. officials are extremely concerned about Russia's military movements and say they will have very little warning if Russia actually moves its troops into eastern Ukraine.

Secretary of State John Kerry was in a meeting with his opposite number, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, at Winfield House, the U.S. Ambassador's residence in London, as of 3 p.m. local time (11 a.m. ET).

Isn't that a "Well, DUH!" kind of thing?

What did George "Whoopass" Bush do in '08 when Russia took (and kept) 20% of Georgia's territory?

I dunno, maybe I'm just a dumb Canuck, but when I see Dick Cheney and Sarah Palin and John Bolton bleating like goats about President Obama's "weakness" and "naivete" and whatnot, I'm just here wracking my puny frozen brain trying to discern what exactly W (which is just an upside-down M which stands for Manliness!) did six years ago that was substantively different from what Obama's doing now.

Anybody care to explain to a poor ferner?

More Than 4.2 Million People Have Now Enrolled In Obamacare

Source: Huffington Post

More than 4.2 million people enrolled into private plans via Obamacare's health insurance exchange marketplaces through March 1, the Department of Health and Human Services announced in a report Tuesday.

The first open enrollment period on the exchanges, which are intended for individuals and families who don't get health benefits at work and aren't covered by government health care programs, ends March 31 for private coverage that will be in effect this year. At the current pace, sign-ups are below the original target of 5.6 million by the end of February, based on the Congressional Budget Office projection of 7 million by the end of March. Last month, the budget office downgraded those projections to 6 million total for the full six-month enrollment period, so a big surge would be needed in the final weeks to meet that benchmark.

One-quarter of the enrollments up to March 1 were for individuals between the ages of 18 and 34. This demographic is considered critical to the long-term viability of the state-based health insurance exchanges because they are presumed to be healthier and thus less likely to incur costly medical bills than the older people in the market. The White House originally aimed for about 40 percent of the enrollees to be younger than 35 years old.
