The government is set to shut down in six days.
There are two ways to avoid this: We can either pass a budget (which means passing 12 separate funding bills) or pass another temporary extension.
In reality, there’s no way the House and Senate are going to agree on a full budget in the next six days. The House has only passed seven funding bills so far and the House and Senate have agreed on zero of them. Even assuming everyone started working in good faith tomorrow, we’re still a couple months from an actual budget deal.
So that leaves a temporary extension.
BUT agreeing to a temporary extension is what got the last Speaker fired.
The new Speaker knows this - and he doesn’t want to be fired - so his plan was to pass as many funding bills as he can before asking his right-flank to go along with another temporary extension next week.
Basically, he wants to show his right-flank that he’s trying very hard to do things the way they want in the hope that they’ll cut him some slack when he inevitably tells them he has to do a temporary extension. (Which was roughly former Speaker McCarthy’s strategy, by the way.)
This week, the Speaker’s goal was to pass two funding bills.
Tuesday night we tried to pass the first one. We had been there for over an hour voting on all these random amendments for the bill, and then, at last, we reached the vote for the actual bill.
And just before it came to a vote, leadership took it down. No vote.
Same exact thing happened on the next funding bill. We had an hour of amendments leading up to the big vote on a funding bill, only to have the bill pulled off the agenda moments before the vote.
Why? Because of internal division within the majority party about the bills themselves. In short, some members of the majority want deeper cuts than others.
So, the Speaker’s plan didn’t work. Zero funding bills passed this week.
Next week is decision time for the Speaker. He’s going to have to go to his caucus with another temporary extension, and I honestly don’t know how they’re going to react.
The Speaker is hoping that his right-flank basically says, “Ok, we’re not going to vote for a temporary extension, but we also won’t try to fire you if you bring it to a vote and it passes.”
If we’re going to avoid a shutdown, that’s roughly what needs to happen. I don’t think there’s another path.

Ady fought for the 24/7 care he needed to be home with us until the end of his life. It’s impossible to thank his incredible caregivers enough for their labor and care, which allowed us to live as a family through Ady’s health challenges. Everyone should have that chance.

US white supremacists wanted to work with Hamas to target Jews.
A self-proclaimed member of the “Boogaloo Bois” was sentenced to prison Wednesday after pleading guilty to conspiracy to provide material support to a designated foreign terrorist organization in December 2020.
A news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office states that 24-year-old Brian Teeter from Hampstead, North Carolina, was sentenced to 48 months in prison and five years of supervised release. His co-defendant, Michael Robert Solomon, pleaded guilty in May 2021 and was sentenced to three years in prison back in March.
Court documents state that the federal investigation of Teeter and Solomon began in May 2020. Both were known to be members of the “Boogaloo Bois” and a sub-group known as the “Boojahideen.” The group is known to embrace violent anti-government sentiments.

We went after him pretty hard here, he was a Karl Rove acolyte as I recall. He was more dangerous than he looked, especially when he was leading the Tea Party mob against Obama and healthcare.

Republican Patrick McHenry may redefine “totally and irreversibly fucked”. The North Carolina representative has found himself in the middle of both a voter fraud and a gay sex scandal. CBS first broke the story on Friday, reporting that McHenry’s former aide, 26-year old Michael Aaron Lay, has been indicted for voter fraud.
The indictment charges that [Lay] illegally cast his ballot in two 2004 Congressional primary run-offs in which McHenry was a candidate. The charges indicate that Lay voted in a district where it was not legal for him to vote.
At the time Lay was listed as a resident in a home owned by 32-year-old McHenry but campaign records indicate Lay’s paychecks were sent to an address in Tennessee. McHenry won the primary by only 86 votes. According to Gaston County, North Carolina District Attorney Locke Bell, Lay was indicted on Monday, May 7 by a local grand jury.
To add innuendo to injury, Lay wasn’t the only young man living at McHenry’s house, proving that no one goes down quite like a Republican.
The news hounds over at BlogActive report that McHenry shacked up with at least three other “aides”: Neil Everett Capano, Matthew Allen Hamilton and his campaign manager, Jason Jent Deans. All four men – Capano, Hamilton, Deans and the appropriately named Lay – used McHenry’s address on their voter registration. Meanwhile, Lay and Dean were both on McHenry’s payroll.

UNC shooting at the Caudill Labs will rile up the Q Anon/anti-vax crowd.
Caudill is one of the labs researching coronavirus in the pre-Covid-19 years and throughout the last 3years. They worked on the development of remdesivir.
Add in the shooter being from the city of Wuhan.

Response to Aldean. What most EVERYONE still gets wrong about Floyd protests.
The worst of the violence and destruction at the protests, and ALL the murders of law officers were committed by members of RightWing terrorist groups using the cover of the protests to add chaos. Their intent was to get BLM and antifa blamed, escalate the chaos and tension, and trigger the race war they’ve been working towards for many years.
These terrorists left their ‘small towns’ in Texas, Minnesota, and NC and traveled to Minneapolis to start a civil war with black protestors taking the blame - blamed as they were blamed in Aldean’s video.

A man who had been part of a far-right group that wants to foment a civil war admitted in federal court Thursday he traveled to Minneapolis from the San Antonio area to sow chaos after the police murder of George Floyd.
Ivan Harrison Hunter, 24, of Boerne, Texas, pleaded guilty to a single count of rioting. The charge carries a maximum prison term of five years.

Hunter admitted that he fired 13 rounds from an AK-47-style rifle into the 3rd precinct police station on May 28, 2020, as other rioters looted and set fire to the building after police evacuated. No one was struck by the gunfire.
After shooting at the building, Hunter was recorded on video high-fiving another person and yelling "Justice for Floyd!”….
Prosecutors say Hunter came to Minneapolis in the days following Floyd’s murder after corresponding on Facebook with Michael Solomon of New Brighton, Minn., and Benjamin Teeter of Hampstead, N.C. The men had been part of the “Boogaloo Bois,” a group that exploits tensions to further violence.

As a drug-addicted fortunate son, Hunter acted foolishly, sometimes criminally - used heavy drugs, alcohol, hung with strippers and hookers, under-reported income to dodge taxes, and constantly tried to score money-making deals while high as a kite and while his father was VP.
It didn’t bother Republicans one bit when George W Bush acted that same way in the 70s and 80s.
Republican voters didn’t think GWBush’s decades of bad behavior rose to any disqualifying level in politics or governance in 2000.
Republicans made Bush President.
Hunter is facing charges.
Republicans are hypocrites. Remind them at every opportunity.
