cksmithy's JournalMy older sister died 20 years ago today.
Even though she was only four years older than me, she was more like my mother than my our real mother. She was my friend, my confident and always had time to talk to me. She had a very rough childhood (we both did), but she could make me laugh and we could cry together. I miss her so much. We saw The Beatles four times, twice in one day. She was only 59 when she died, complications from her MS medications. When new medications are available and they talk about side effects, including death, it is true. Her doctors said her brain cancer was directly related to her meds.
I just wanted to honor her. I have never started a discussion, always respond to other member's post, but my sister was a wonderful person who I miss and love everyday.
I took a meteorology class in 1999
before getting my BA degree in Liberal Arts to teach k to 8th grade. It was a fascinating class, learned all sorts of info. The professor was about my age late 40's to 50 years old. Her first job, as she told us, for working for insurance companies that covered farms and their losses. She used topographical maps, temperatures, etc. readings to go with the maps, and then after pouring over them, using math formulas, would produce the weather forecast for the next day. They wanted the farms to succeed, the companies didn't want to pay out for a loss.
As the professor said, once computers became involved, it was very easy to forecast the weather, hence she became an educator. Why on earth would tsf and his minions want to hurt farmers and their capability to produce food. I am afraid they have very diabolical intentions.
From what I have read it was so many inches of rain here and so many of inches of rain over there, well, those inches of rain rain come together and become a foot or more of water. So if a person who knew the area, who could add two numbers together, could have adverted this tragedy. I think I read, the local authorities, sounded an alarm but it was too late.
The moron in the White House, Doge?, is to blame for this tragedy.
Good story.
One of our first cats was a very young un-neutered adult when we adopted him. Of course we got him neutered, but he hated all white cats and all dogs who came into our front yard off leash. He was not afraid of any dog. He was a scrapper, fighter, and had a cauliflower ear to prove it. He chased all dogs and white cats out of our yard. We kept him inside at night, he guarded the yard during the day. Lived to 18 years. For the past 20 years all our cats live in doors, but you are right we have to take a stand and not run away from the bully, even if it appears to be a poodle.
I have been a reader since 2016, and posted I've posted a few responses since I joined this year.
I learned about du after the 2016 election. I have loved reading all the posts, I agree with almost everything I have read. I guess this is my first original post. So to introduce myself, I was born in 1951, I am a 72 years old women, my father had major shell shock, ptsd from ww2, which he took out on his children. I really can't stand what is going on in Ukraine and the US. I grew up with the threat (in my father's imagination, (somewhere I have a pamphlet of what to do in case of nuclear attack)) of communists coming over our hill, which is connected to Hwy 101, in California, 13 miles from Fort Ord, CA. I am so sad and angry about what is happening to Ukraine. I feel it. I read a story about a 91 year old Leningrad survivor who is in Ukraine, and how difficult her life is. I, too, worry about my grandchildren and children living in this world and the world that is to come. I can only hope it will be ok. It feels like it is happening right now, to everyone. I am no longer on the California coast, though, I sure wish I was, the weather is wonderful and the country side and foothills, where I grew up, are so beautiful.
