Among those hit by pepper spray were this Tucson Sentinel reporter and U.S. Rep. Adelita Grijalva.
A little more than a dozen agents with Homeland Security Investigationsa part of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcementand U.S. Customs and Border Protection raided Taco Giro on the 600 block of North Grande Avenue on Wednesday morning, part of a larger investigation that involved at least 16 search warrants across Southern Arizona, according to an ICE spokesman. Dia de los Muertos 2025
Wishing a blessed and enriching observance of Día de los Muertos to those who observe. A huge oferenda (special memorial altar) is under construction at Tucson's El Tiradito Wishing Shrine, for the observance tonight.

"Brace for an increase in shoplifting."
Just got back from the supermarket and a chat with my favorite checkout clerk.
She said store management told them to brace for an increase in shoplifting activity after Nov. 1 when SNAP benefits are not paid. She's not sure what she can do about it by herself. Company policy doesn't allow her to confront the shoplifter and the unarmed store "security" guy at the entrance/exit is just for show. Security is not allowed to arrest or detain anyone. Cops with statutory arrest authority won't come for "petty" crime like a single shoplifting incident.
The monetary loss to shrinkage ... the bookkeeping term for inventory lost to theft ... will be programmed back in to make up for the loss, and to raise the prices that honest shoppers pay.
Food banks will be overwhelmed. We're degenerating back into a Dickensian society where desperate people have to steal to eat. Never forget this is the Republicans' fault.
Furloughs at Arizona's biggest Army post mean widespread pain in Sierra Vista

With the government shutdown in its fourth week and thousands of civilian federal workers furloughed, the lunch rush at 143 Street Tacos, less than a mile from the gate, has slowed to a trickle.
So Carrillo has turned the tip jar into a collection jar for donors to buy their neighbors meals they can no longer afford.

In memoriam for gunshot victims; yesterday, today, and tomorrow.....
America is a Gun"England is a cup of tea.
France, a wheel of ripened brie.
Greece, a short, squat olive tree.
America is a gun.
Brazil is football on the sand.
Argentina, Maradona's hand.
Germany, an oompah band.
America is a gun.
Holland is a wooden shoe.
Hungary, a goulash stew.
Australia, a kangaroo.
America is a gun.
Japan is a thermal spring.
Scotland is a highland fling.
Oh, better to be anything
than America as a gun.

Historic Fort Huachuca Horse Cavalry Unit Defunded By U.S. Army
A decision by the U.S. Army to defund the Military Working Equine (MWE) program means the elimination of Fort Huachuca's historical horse cavalry unit, the 4th U.S. Cavalry Regiment (Memorial) B-Troop. Fort Huachuca is located in Cochise County, adjacent to the city of Sierra Vista.
The decision to disband the MWE program saves $2 million nationally, a tiny fraction of the Army's annual budget of more than $185 billion. It is part of an effort to concentrate resources on operational readiness and save costs, but its elimination diminishes the ability to teach about the history of Arizona and the military in the west.
B-Troop was a regular guest at events and parades all over the West, including Cheyenne Frontier Days, the Tucson Rodeo, the Rose Parade, and many other demonstrations of the legacy of the U.S. Cavalry in the 19th century.
The unit appeared regularly at Tucson's Fort Lowell Day event, until the Covid pandemic forced cancellation in 2021, and the following brief video substituted for B-Troop's visit:

https://www.azfamily.com/2025/07/13/historic-grand-canyon-lodge-destroyed-by-wildfire/I am so sad. I remember standing in the dining room with one of my sons, at that HUGE picture window directly on the Canyon edge, and watching a condor soaring on the air currents a couple of hundred feet BELOW where we were.
