Cat Power - "Like A Rolling Stone" (2023), from "Cat Power Sings Dylan: The 1966 Royal Albert Hall Concert"

"Cat Power Sings Dylan: The 1966 Royal Albert Hall Concert" is a live album by American singer-songwriter Cat Power. It was recorded in 2022 at the Royal Albert Hall in London, with Cat Power recreating Bob Dylan's show at the Manchester Free Trade Hall in 1966, which was bootlegged and mistakenly labeled as having been recorded at the Royal Albert Hall. It received positive reviews from critics. The album is a faithful recreation of Dylan's set, down to the switch to electric instruments half-way through.

Gorgeous interpretations of his music, in my opinion.

The Statler Brothers - "Elizabeth" (1984, classic 80s country)

Singer Jimmy Fortune already had a tune in mind, and was inspired to title the song "Elizabeth" after watching the film "Giant" (starring Elizabeth Taylor) before a show, and then met a young girl who introduced herself as Elizabeth in the audience during the show. The Statler Brothers would later perform the song for Elizabeth Taylor on her 52nd birthday. The song was the first Number 1 Statler Brothers' hit to feature Jimmy Fortune on lead vocals.

Led Zeppelin (John Bonham drum solo) - "Bonzo's Montreux" (1976, on the 1982 Coda album)

Brilliance. Also, you can hear the famous squeaking of his kick drum pedal.

In a review of Coda, Kurt Loder of Rolling Stone gave the track a positive review, praising Bonham's "drum orchestra" and the electronic effects added by Jimmy Page.

Megadeth - "Angry Again" (1993) One of their more melodic songs.

Song chugs along, solid. Great guitar riff. Nice chorus.

When Dave Mustaine wrote the song, he was angry with his band, promoters, and a lot of different parts of the organization, and had problems with drug use at the time. "I wrote 'Angry Again' right after I got out of a treatment center in Arizona. They had done one of those happy little 1990s interventions where everybody who's not loaded gets to point the finger at everyone who is. And the day I got out of rehab, they threw me into a studio in Phoenix where I wrote 'Angry Again' for the movie The Last Action Hero."

The song was written exclusively for inclusion in the soundtrack for the 1993 satirical action film Last Action Hero, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. "Angry Again" never appeared on any of the band's official studio albums, but was included on their 1995 EP Hidden Treasures, and several later compilations.

Cheap Trick - "I Can't Take It" (1983) Pure power pop

In the 2007 book Shake Some Action: The Ultimate Power Pop Guide, author John M. Borack picked the song as one of twenty stand-out tracks from the band's career. He wrote, "This is pure, unfiltered power pop for the masses, with Todd Rundgren's bright 'n' shiny production, giving it a radio-friendly sheen. One of the great, semi-lost Cheap Trick numbers, and one they still perform live."

Death Cab for Cutie - "Soul Meets Body" (2005)

Death Cab for Cutie emerged from the Pacific Northwest in the early aughts and built a following with its confessional lyricism and straightforward indie rock sound.

Gorgeous. If you think you don't know it, skip to 2:07, you might recognize. Beautiful video; the floating music notes have quite a journey.

I do believe it's true
That there are roads left in both of our shoes
But if the silence takes you
Then I hope it takes me too

Curtis Mayfield - "Pusherman" (1972, from the "Super Fly" film soundtrack)

"Widely considered a classic of 1970s soul and funk music, the Super Fly soundtrack was a nearly immediate hit. Super Fly is one of the few soundtracks to out-gross the film it accompanied."
