A 20-year-old woman was shot and killed after her friend turned into the wrong driveway in upstate N

Source: CNN

A 20-year-old woman was shot and killed Saturday after she and three others accidentally turned into the wrong driveway while looking for a friend’s house in rural upstate New York, authorities said.

The woman, identified as Kaylin Gillis, was a passenger in a vehicle when a man fired two shots from his front porch, Washington County Sheriff Jeffrey Murphy said in a news conference Monday. One of the shots hit the vehicle and struck Gillis, the sheriff said.

The man, 65-year-old Kevin Monahan, has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with her death, Murphy said.

Every State needs to make people aware of what "self defense" actually MEANS.
This is ridiculous. No one ever even got out of the car.

A former high-level FBI agent faces charges for aiding a sanctioned Russian oligarch

Source: NPR

A former high-level FBI agent is facing several charges for his alleged work with a sanctioned Russian oligarch.

Charles McGonigal, the former special agent in charge of counterintelligence in the FBI's New York office, is accused of working with Oleg Deripaska, who has been on the U.S. sanctions list since 2018.

McGonigal's involvement with the Russian billionaire involved taking secret payments for investigating one of Deripaska's rivals. He also worked to get Deripaska off the U.S. sanctions list, in violation of federal law, prosecutors said.

Sergey Shestakov, a U.S. citizen who is a former Soviet and Russian diplomat and federal court interpreter, is facing charges alongside McGonigal. Prosecutors allege Shestakov, 69, and McGonigal worked together to aid Deripaska.

I love trump!!

If you know anyone who still says this, then a lot of this probably applies to them. It certainly does with most of the ones I know.

Apparently he gave NO indication of what he was about to do.

Early voting in GA up over 150% from 2020.

It looks like GA REALLY wants to smack the "trump choice" for governor. If kemp wins a 4 way race without a runoff it will be a HUGE defeat for trump. Kemp was his #1 target

Jill Biden pays surprise visit to Ukraine, meets first lady

Source: AP

UZHHOROD, Ukraine (AP) — U.S. first lady Jill Biden made an unannounced visit to western Ukraine on Sunday, holding a surprise Mother’s Day meeting with the nation’s first lady, Olena Zelenska, as Russia presses its punishing war in the eastern regions.

Biden traveled under the cloak of secrecy, becoming the latest high-profile American to enter Ukraine during its 10-week-old conflict with Russia.

“I wanted to come on Mother’s Day,” Biden told Zelenska. “I thought it was important to show the Ukrainian people that this war has to stop and this war has been brutal and that the people of the United States stand with the people of Ukraine.”

The first lady traveled by vehicle to the town of Uzhhorod, about a 10-minute drive from a Slovakian village that borders Ukraine. She spent about two hours in Ukraine.

When I saw where she was visiting yesterday, I had a good feeling she was going to do this. What a big "FU" to Putin.

Seems like a good time for Georgia to push Russia OUT of their country

Seems like the forces of the invaders have been reduced to be sent to UKR, so why not open a 2nd front. Sure hurt the Germans when they had 2 fronts to defend.
Worth a shot

Rep. Adam Kinzinger Pushes 'Uneasy Alliance' to Thwart Trump's Allies

Source: WTTW.com

NEW YORK (AP) — In the high-stakes fight for the GOP’s future, Rep. Adam Kinzinger, R-Ill., is calling on Democrats and independents to form an “uneasy alliance” with Republicans to fight former President Donald Trump's influence.

Kinzinger, one of Trump’s fiercest Republican critics in Congress, has directed his political organization to initiate a novel campaign to convince non-Republicans to support anti-Trump Republican candidates in GOP primary contests across the country later this year. Experts suggest the practice, sometimes known as “party raiding,” will be hard to execute on a broad scale, but Kinzinger warned that failure to shift the GOP’s embrace of Trump could undermine democracy or even lead to “failed state.”

“People need to wake up to that real possibility,” Kinzinger, who is not seeking reelection this fall, told The Associated Press. “We have to be able to have uneasy alliances, as uneasy as they may be in this moment.”

There are few modern examples of a sitting Republican member of Congress so openly asking Democrats to help take down a former president of his own party.

I already planned to do this in GA. Stacy Abrams has no primary opponent anyway. Defeat Perdue & Jody Hice. And if you're in a reliably Red state, even MORE reason to do it. Vote in the GOP primary and defeat the Trump shills that he needs in place to tamper with the NEXT election. If you live in Liz Cheney's district, vote for her.
Not only does it defeat trumps lackeys, the bonus is that it will drive Trump absolutely NUTS

Officers rescue pilot seconds before train hits crashed airplane on railroad tracks

Source: USA Today

Officers in California saved a pilot who crashed onto railroad tracks seconds before a train smashed the wreckage into pieces.

On Sunday, a Cessna 172 made an emergency landing around 2 p.m. PT shorty after takeoff from Whiteman Airport in Pacoima, according to the Associated Press.

Two officers from the Los Angeles Police Department can be seen on body camera footage pulling the bloodied pilot to safety moments before the train collided with the aircraft.

"Go, go go!" one of the officers shouted while running away.

A scene you usually only see in a movie. Just amazing they got him out.

(the pilot is a little bloody if that sight bothers anyone)

China Weighing Occupation of Former U.S. Air Base at Bagram: Sources

Source: USNews

China is considering deploying military personnel and economic development officials to Bagram airfield, perhaps the single-most prominent symbol of the 20-year U.S. military presence in Afghanistan.

The Chinese military is currently conducting a feasibility study about the effect of sending workers, soldiers and other staff related to its foreign economic investment program known as the Belt and Road Initiative in the coming years to Bagram, according to a source briefed on the study by Chinese military officials, who spoke to U.S. News on the condition of anonymity.

A spokesman for the Chinese Foreign Ministry on Tuesday issued a carefully crafted denial of plans for an imminent takeover of the military airfield roughly an hour from Kabul, first established by the Soviets during their own occupation in Afghanistan and which at the height of the U.S. military presence there was its busiest in the world.

Of course, the Chinese deny it.
