Thomas Friedman is drawing attention for his blistering column about the state of the Republican Party, which he thinks should “declare moral bankruptcy” and start over.
The three-time Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist said the United States needs a healthy two-party system but that the Grand Old Party is not doing its part, which traditionally has been to advocate for market-based solutions and sound fiscal policy. Instead, he said, it’s merely an empty shell willing to sell itself off to the highest bidders — untethered from principled, center-right conservatism.
On Tuesday, in an opinion piece for the New York Times, Friedman lambasted top Republican leaders — who had been willing to buck the party line in the past — for throwing their support behind Donald Trump despite his history of off-color comments.
He was perplexed that Ryan would still endorse Trump after the businessman questioned Judge Gonzalo Curiel’s ability to preside over the Trump University lawsuit without bias because of his Mexican heritage. Ryan called this a “textbook definition” of racism but said it’s worth backing Trump because he will sign off on a Republican agenda.

Pres. Bill Clinton received information to help him respond to questions about the prospect of Donald Trump mounting a presidential bid all the way back in 1999.
Trump, now the frontrunner in the Republican presidential primary, first flirted with a White House run during the 2000 election cycle, when Democratic presidential primary frontrunner Hillary Clinton was first lady and Bill occupied the Oval Office.
Documents newly released by the William J. Clinton Presidential Library show that the famously loquacious Bill Clinton was prepped to talk Trump while still in the White House. Clinton received a memo about Trump ahead of a White House press conference in a document dated Oct. 14, 1999. Trump, a real estate mogul who has been a tabloid fixture in New York and regularly appeared on television even before launching his own reality show in 2008, was included among other unconventional celebrity candidates.

Hillary Clinton Accused Of Using Static Noise To Conceal Fundraising Speech

A local reporter in Denver says Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton used a “static noise machine” at a fundraising event to prevent the press and public from hearing her speech.
The fundraiser was Thursday at the residence of Colorado gov. John Hickenlooper. The event was private, but since it took place outside — in a tent in Hickenlooper’s yard — anyone nearby would be able to hear much of what was going on.
But apparently the Clinton campaign wanted to make sure that didn’t happen, according to CBS Denver reporter Stan Bush, who tweeted that the campaign pointed a white-noise machine at the street just before Hillary Clinton spoke.
