The "weirdness"of Republicans is more than just the crazy stuff they do.

I think it also is in combination with the mismatch of their affect and their words/actions. They despise many of the people in their base but have to pretend to love them to get their votes. When people are disingenuous, others can pick up on that and it makes them uncomfortable but they may not know why.

I am a middle school teacher and I had to learn real quick that those kids pick up on bullshit immediately. If I were to gain their trust and respect, I needed to be genuine and commit to really and truly caring about and accepting them no matter how messy or challenging they got. I could act weird and say goofy things and they didn't care as long as I was being my self and they knew I had their back. I think this quality distinguishes many of the dems from the repubs.

Those running the GOP (rich, white, etc.) mainly want to keep their money and power. They can't get votes on that so they will pretend to be the friends of anyone (Christian nationalists, racists, sexual predators, etc.) and create any bad policy choices (or make bad rulings if they are SCOTUS) just so they can keep their money and power. Just my thoughts.
