Something told me that his "standing firm" was too good to be true.
Heaven help the GOP if something bad happens on a national basis during this shutdown....
If there is a terrorist attack or something bad would happen and we failed to, couldn't respond or couldn't move personnel quickly enough due to a shutdown-- it will truly be over for them.
In the perilous time we live in, I wouldn't want to take that chance.
The GOP faction in the House is secure in its arrogance....
They aren't worried about losing any mid-term election.
They can't be taught the lesson they so richly deserve....
I am particularly frustrated at weak kneed Democratic Party members for allowing the gerrymandering to happen unabated. They let it happen without any protest or fanfare.
Nothing will change....soon enough.

1, 5, 10, 20 years? I can get that. But this is year 12. Just sensation for sensation sake, this doesn't make sense to stop the news.
I don't think anyone who was old enough to know what was going on at the time will EVER forget what happened. No one asks "why" anymore....

Job rate 169,000 adds, 7.3% unemployment rate. GOP supporters disappointed AGAIN!
The unemployment rate is lower than when Obama took office (7.8% January 2009), but you won't hear them mention that.
I love to see the numbers at 8:30 each month on the Morning Joe Show. Joe seems so disappointed when the number is positive in any way. If the rate goes down or the number is up, the meme is that it isn't as good as it should be. No it isn't. But, when we we losing 750,000 jobs a month--under Bush, he somehow always found a way to be positive.

When is Obama and the Congressional Democrats going to address the treason in their faces?
The country is being hamstrung by people who don't want to see the government succeed. I have had three friends (over 50 years old) kill themselves because they couldn't find a decent job to feed their families--after having good/great jobs for years. I believe they are gone because of the insurance money that saved their families, but I don't know. Many companies could care less about paying a "living wage" for new workers that come in their doors. If you can't find a decent paying job in this country or business where you can make decent money, you are sh*t out of luck.
I might be wrong, but I don't think Franklin Roosevelt or Dwight Eisenhower would have allowed this to go on and on.
If Obama and the Democratic Party aren't going to stand up for us and our values, who will?

If Chris Christie picks Cory Booker to replace Lautenberg...he will become a "bipartisan" hero.
I wouldn't be surprised. Christie has NOTHING to lose at this point by doing appointing Booker and it would be a great way to get back at the Republicans that snubbed him over the Romney VP slot among other things.
It will not hurt ANY Republican to have a big bipartisan achievement under his belt. Cory Booker would be indebted to Christie and it could cause all kinds of problems for the Democrats.
This could be the power move that Christie needs.....
