Maybe 5% will start thinking at this point.

I am a proud Democrat though, not gonna deny that

(40,616 posts)They are probably gonna throw out the New Testament next - something about Jesus being a stinking commie hippie libtard that provided healthcare free of charge to people with pre-exisitng conditions and provided welfare to people that needed it.

(19,502 posts)They might revert to the Old Testament, but they may at least begin thinking, . . . and for more than a moment.
(By the way, except for the fact that it was the religion of my parents, and I love some of its stories and poetry, I have no particular fondness for Christianity. I'm just trying to think of ways to break through that barrier of people who claim to be Christians, the MagaBrainfreeze!)

I agree, they need an extended conversation, consideration, patience and understanding, but I'm suggesting an initial step.

(19,502 posts)I guess it boils down to a matter of how it's done, the social situation. Maybe it's a question to ask after they tell you of both beliefs (in "anti-woke" and Christ) and you ask, non-conversationally, but in a desire to understand their contradiction, "But wasn't Jesus woke?"

(23,338 posts)De-programming is an intense job for experienced therapists, and requires cooperation, that is, recognition that one has a problem.
However, some do break free. Reasons can include a sense of betrayal, an inability to continue holding the immense contradictions in one's mind, recognition of the consequences (why mafiosi flip), or just hitting rock bottom.
I favor the first two. He ain't being crucified for their sins. They're being crucified for his.
The impeachments and the Jan 6 hearings may have had zero payout, but in my opinion, justice is the tail end of accountability, which must come first, and often is sufficient.

Most Germans did indeed hit rock bottom.
What the clear-minded see sometimes takes a long time, or some tipping point to become apparent to others. I believe in tipping points because they make scientific and psychological/practical sense. They happen.
All the reason to persist in getting the unvarnished facts out. Hearings and trials do the job when clickbait media fail, or in their denial, inadvertently reveal the truth. I have watched a handful of real Christians call out the lies and distortions. Too few, but they are coming out of hiding.
Standing up for truth is not easy.
Continue to do so, first with oneself, and then one person at a time with good people.

And a woman, whose heart was divided between spirit and body, came before him. In quiet despair, she asked,Lord, I come to you estranged, for my spirit and body are not one. How shall I hope to enter the kingdom of God?
Jesus looked upon her with kindness, replying, my child, blessed are those who strive for unity within themselves, for they shall know the deepest truths of my Fathers creation. Be not afraid, for in the kingdom of God, there is no man nor woman, as all are one in spirit.
This is truly enlightened.
Jesus spoke very often of the non-dual nature of reality.
The spirit is the working of the mystic law.
Yet, his teachings are twisted and turned against themselves because there is no exploitation, no power hoarding, no "unearned privilege" when the distinction between self and other, between self and the universe (i.e. God) are dissolved.
Turned by people seeking to exploit, hoard power, and exercise imagined privilege over others.
Pharisees and their "Mimic what I do, not what I say" disciples.
Words are easy to twist.
Actions count.
