The last day of the impeachment trial reminds me of the 1st JJ Abrams Star Trek movie

Remember the Kobayashi Maru simulator scene in the first JJ Abrams Star Trek movie? Chris Pine/Young Kirk obnoxiously was just eating an apple, slouching like a slacker in the skipper's chair, totally unworried cause the game had already been rigged in his favor. Contemptuously, he did not even bothering to fake the effort.

Trump's lawyers didn't even have to try. Theirs was the same adolescent contempt for the seriousness of the moment. They just repeated some BS Fox News type anti-logic malarkey and let the Senate Republicans' fear of the monster they've created do the heavy lifting. Republican Math works like this: if 74 million is greater than 81 million, thus 43 > 57. They're gonna call this a win. That's more up is down bullshit. They lost. The world and history just saw them putting party above country, power above democracy, fear above honesty.

They got away with it, just like the Klan got away with lynchings for generations. Just like Europe got away with imperialism for centuries. Just like tobacco companies got away with denying cancer links for decades. Just like the Korematsu decision has remained unrebuked by law. The moment comes; the villainy exposes itself; the world's capacity to tolerate corruption wears thin. We don't win big victories. We just have to endure while our opponents win pyrrhic victories and the slow slow moral arc bends our way. History will reject Trump's acquittal. It will take too long for the full national consensus to get there, but that day will come. It's inevitable.

Now we see the difference between Trump and Clinton.

Clinton got a blow job and they called it an impeachable offense. Trump committed an impeachable offense and he just got 43 blow jobs.

Well, this didn't age well

Come on, Jackson's own Vice President? That seems like an exaggeration

108 million people have had Covid19; 28 mil are Americans. 2.4mil have died; 20.5% were Americans

The disparity between the US having 26% of the world's Covid cases but under 21% of its mortality reflects two realities. First, that under fire from the deadliest health crisis since the 1919 Pandemic, American medical professionals have learned so much about how to attack the virus and protect its victims. But also, it shows that long after much of the developed world has learned to suppress the spread of the virus, the US continues to see surging numbers, 100,000 per day or more, and sustains a subculture of denial that actively works to leave our population vulnerable to this disease and the long term effects it inflicts on its surviving victims.

4% of the world's population, but 26% of its Covid 19 cases. Let that sink in

Oh my God. I... I... I'm not entirely sure what to do with this information

All I know is that there is no record of any "Mitt Romney" in existence before 1977

One incendiary thing Trump did that the House managers are leaving out.

They talk about the lie of the stolen election during the storming of the Capitol.

But they are studiously avoiding mention of the months of lies building up and sustaining the spirit of lawlessness and insurrection, building up and sustaining the mass of deluded conspirators and calling them to come to Washington to "take back the country." Why?

Because over a third of the senators sitting as the jury supported and participated in that particular "peaceful" attack on our democracy and Constitution. It wasn't a late morning speech worth of lies that pushed the insurrection to attack Congress. It was three months of lies trumpted by almost the entire Republican leadership. They all participated in squaring up the mob to attack. It's just that McCarthy, McConnell, Christie, and just about everyone but Mitt Romney wanted the mob to be a hollow threat. They wanted to rattle the saber and were too self-blinded to think that Trump would unsheath it.

So they're not bringing up how two senators in particular led the calls for the same mob the president is accused of unleashing. They're not naming names of Republican members of Congress who helped the leaders of the invasion do reconnaissance on the Capitol the day before. They're leaving these facts unaddressed, because there are co-conspirators sitting in the jury.

Imagine being a Capitol police officer. Imagine guarding Republican MCs

They will treat the Republican Members of Congress with respect and deference. They will still put their lives on the line to protect them.

They will do so knowing the Republican party is protecting the man behind the mob that put their lives in danger, the mob that killed one of their brothers, the injured over 100 more, and drove two others to suicide.

Some of those Republicans showed the rioters, just a day or two before, showed the insurrectionist terrorists, how to navigate that building and attack our leaders and our Constitution.

Congratulations to Vladimir Putin. Congratulations to Rupert Murdoch. You've created the world you wanted to live in.

All Americans are in one of two states right now

Livid or traitorous.

Mob came within seconds of grabbing Mitt Romney.

He was for sure on their hit list. They hate him as bad as Pence and Pelosi.

I hope everyone is watching this.
