Lulu Latech's JournalWell here's a frightening new development on the employment front
A new tactic for keeping wages low and throwing out the "old".
"A new casino set to open in Atlantic City, N.J., has announced it will set term limits for its front-line staff. When employees' terms run out, they'll have to go through the hiring process again. The casino says the policy will keep its service fresh. Others say the company is taking advantage of a tough job market.
From bellhops to dealers, employees of the new casino called Revel will be hired for terms from four to six years. After that, they have to reapply for their jobs and compete against other candidates."

So how is everyone surviving the snow?
I for sure thought I would lose power. But it looks like we will get through it easier than I thought. It's cold out there though. I have well over a foot in the hills of Snohomish and the cars are stuck in the driveway. I have an acre of dtiveway to get to the road so we aren't going anywhere. Waste management won't be picking up tomorrow and my full circle CSA box is delayed till Sat. SO walked down and mail was delivered both yesterday and today! Gotta love the Post Office
Doesn't this look Absolutely Delicious?

Smitten Kitten does it again with an Apple Sharlotka.

Adapted from Alexs mother, who adapted it from her mother, and so on
Butter or nonstick spray, for greasing pan
6 large, tart apples, such as Granny Smiths
3 large eggs
1 cup (200 grams) granulated sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup (125 grams) all-purpose flour
Ground cinnamon, to finish
Powdered sugar, also to finish

Now I just need someone to make it for me and take it away so I only eat 1 piece....
Ruth Reichl tweets a very strange recipe Indeed
I'm trying not to bake.... but I'd love to know how this recipe comes out. Butterscotch Pudding cake with no eggs and very little fat.
