oh how i shamed a gun humper today.

a trumpkin and gun humper i know, um, intimately, was going off on emma gonzalez on fb this morning. after some back and forth, including a thinly veiled threat, i posted-
i am so glad i met you. now i know that it is not about how big your penis is, but whether or not you can get it up.

he blocked me. thank ja. my compulsion to see what he is up to is a persistent waste of my time.

i dont think it is so much who the nra supports.

their dollars, really, are paltry when you look at it. those kids w their price tags made that clear.
it is the way they go after those who oppose them.
many dems who voted for the clinton assault rifle ban knew they were gonna be defeated in the next round. and they were. defeated by the dirtiest of dirty campaigns.
there are limits on what you can donate to a candidate. sorta.
but there are no limits on what you can spend sliming someone. they operate in the spaces that are hard to track.
you can see how much they gave their friends.
how much they spent to trash their opponents is a lot more opaque. and ugly. the ugliest of american politics.

my sister won! some thoughts from a purple county.

my sister, sheila rutledge, ran for a county board seat in formerly solid red dupage county. there were 3 candidates for 2 seats.
my sister outworked the next vote getter, erica green, but the vote totals are pretty close in all. looking at the precinct totals, i can see where sheila campaigned, and where the erica did.
they were #1 & #2 on the ballot. the #3 candidate, a young man named john macguire, was the loser, a distant third.

the message? the women are coming for you, republicans.
although sean casten won the right to face peter ro-scum for the 6th cd, out of 7 candidates, 2 men and 5 women, he only got 35% of the vote. the other man got 2%, and the 5 women split the rest of the votes.

up and down the ballot here, women outperformed men.

it's a new day.
onward to november.

my sister is winning!

sorry i am posting from my phone. how these kids do this i don’t know. we are in the lead w the other woman candidate close behind. as she did almost zero campaigning, i must say this is the year of the woman.
i’m told results will be slow cuz the software sucks. think the results reported are mostly early voting. told there are machine malfunctions.
couldnt figure out how to cut a link. if someone can find a link to dupage county dem candidates please post.

my sister is running- tomorrow (ok, it's now today) is the day. wish us luck.

out planting signs at the polling places. def winning the yard sign game. didnt see a single one of either of our opponents.
we are optimistic.

this is the easy part, of course. the general is where the real competition comes in. but then again, maybe not this year.

anyway- wish sheila luck, and the rest of the dems that have stepped up to make a full slate in this red stronghold.

eta- thanks for all the good wishes. she really appreciates du.

ok du. my sister is running. help us over the finish line. pretty please.

the illinois primary is only 8 days away.
my sister, sheila rutledge, is on the ballot for the county board of dupage county, a formerly solid red area, now very purple, and decidedly flippable.

this is in peter ro-scum's 6th il district. the dupage democratic party has pushed to get 1 dem elected in each of the 6 county districts. this is the heart of il6. flip the county, and we will flip the district.

for the first time in anyone's memory, there is a dem candidate for every seat on the ticket. in most cases, there are actual contested primaries. there a 7 dem candidates for the house seat!! (old timers will remember christine cegelis's campaign that caused henry hyde to retire. the local party has grown by leaps and bounds since then.)

in sheila's race, there are 3 dem candidates.
she is by far the best candidate. not just my opinion, but the opinion of several mayors and party chairs in the district, including the party chair of one of her challenger's home township.
she is working her little buns off. she is knocking doors every day. the party will help her if she wins her primary, but they only do a little before that. so, we are operating on a very skinny shoestring right now.

we think she can win.
we need another order of yard signs for the polling places next tuesday. and after we win, we will need a much bigger order. there are over 80k voters in her district. we will need to reach them, and get her name out there. (did i mention we have great looking, very striking signs? we do.)
we also need to bring the donuts next tuesday.

like my last ask, i will match every dollar that you guys donate.
yes, she is my sister, and yes, i have given her some money. and a lot of time.
but she hates to ask me. so i need this little maguffin to sooth her conscience. lol.

at the bottom of the ticket, small change brings big change. this is where the tsunami will grow.
even $5 is very much appreciated.

if you cant afford to give, please knr. let's get this on the top of the greatest page. please.

and if you are a tweeter, please follow her- @sheila rutledge
more links in my sig.

eta!!!!!!

ok, in honor of angel823, i will donate back to your candidate, if you donate to mine. the lower on the ballot, the better. k?

Cannabis candidate accused of abusing women and inflating his resume

CHICAGO — Benjamin Thomas Wolf, an Illinois congressional candidate whose provocative campaign has captured national media attention, has smoked weed in front of an American flag, brandished an AR-15 in a campaign ad and is running ads on porn sites.

But his turn in the spotlight — the former FBI employee has been featured in write-ups in Newsweek and CNN and appeared in an interview on "Fox & Friends" — has unearthed a troubled past, including accusations of abusive behavior toward women and claims that he inflated his resume.

The allegations against Wolf, the so-called cannabis candidate who is running in a crowded Democratic primary against Chicago-based Rep. Mike Quigley, come amid a national moment of reckoning on sexual harassment and domestic abuse, and on the heels of a scandal involving Rob Porter, the former White House staff secretary accused of domestic violence by two ex-wives.

so i want to thank you guys for making me a part of this community

in such a big way back in the days of the hot tub.
it did so much for me in evaluating what is bullshit in the dark corners of the innertubes.

i am sure it is not a new concept to you that the jury system sometimes lets things go because they dont have the institutional memory that the mod squad had.

this thread gives me a thought on that score-
what if, on the message for the "kooky and extremest content" violation there was a list included or available, of the sites that get dinged in other jury decisions? ie- fellow du members have voted to remove posts as kooky most often from these websites- then list, say the top ten that get shot down?

i dont see natural news here too often, but have a friend who is always swallowing that crap on fb.
it just seems too important in the world of fake news to leave to a random combination of folks who may never have heard of some of those places.

we do it for the war on drugs, we can do it for the war on child murderers.

asset forfeiture is somehow legal. people who do nothing more than carry a big wad of cash can have it seized, and then have to petition the courts to get it back.
this is far more damaging to our right to due process than taking guns away from some raging asshole.

whatever the legal framework for the war on drugs is, i can see no problem w extending it to the war on child murderers and wife beaters.

yes, i would like to see asset forfeiture overturned. but until it is, i want to see it applied to gun nuts.
