senseandsensibility's JournalSeriously, what is the best we can hope for after today's CDC hearing?
The doctors who were fired from the CDC conducted themselves well and anyone with two brain cells to rub together would believe them over RFK, Jr. Most of the Rs questioning them made fools of themselves, especially Mark Wayne Billy Bob Mullin and Sen. Moody, who I saw referred to on bluesky as a dollar store Elaine Stefanik.
Sen. Cassidy, a doctor himself, seemed to be on the side of science and disturbed by the fact that the doctors were being asked to ignore science.
But what's the bottom line? Will Cassidy do anything? I'm not feeling optimistic.

CNN runs some good bios when celebs like Robert Redford die
I watched one segment today with the Director of The Natural who said that Redford was a natural athlete and did not use body doubles during the filming. Interesting. I also learned that he was born in Santa Monica, and was familiar with the natural environment in Los Angeles before World War ll. They showed some old video of rivers and how LA used to look. This sparked his interest in environmentalism.
They also showed a lot of stills and video of Robert Redford in his prime. He was great looking. It dawned on me that that is the look that trump is still trying to emulate, even now. He's still going for that hair color and style. Good luck with that.
Wasn't happening thirty years ago, and it sure isn't happening now.
RIP, Mr. Redford. Thank you for making this world a better place.
Sen. Welch (D) was just given a softball question on CNN, and
HE BLEW IT!!!!! The question was (paraphrased) What is your response to the VP and trump saying that the majority of polical violence is on the left and blaming members of the Democratic party?
Sen. Welch did not even quote statistics that prove that false! His answer was "The person who commits the violent act is the one who should be held accountable. And all of us who are in public life, and actually all citizens with their fierce commitment to their point of view should be presenting that point of view with some respect to the people who disagree."
Sure, but the RW never does that. That's the point. And the question was directly about addressing the FALSE ATTACKS AGAINST DEMOCRATS COMING FROM TRUMP AND VANCE. I didn't hear an answer, and I can only conclude that he has no interest in defending Democrats.
This is why the press feels free to help the RW spread their BS about Democrats celebrating, being more violent, etc. No one, not even Democrats, will object even when given a clear shot to do so.
Concerned about vaccine mandates ending in FLA public schools? Dr. Oz responds.
A reporter asked Dr. Oz if pulling vaccine mandates for children to attend school is the right call. Here's his "answer".
Dr. Oz: Well one thing you can be sure of is kids loves their kids more than anybody else loves their kids"
Don't speak maga, but I am NOT reassured.
Trump threatens to tattle on an Australian reporter to his "leader"
This public threat by trump to an Australian reporter this morning is both infantile and terrifying.
He warned an Australian reporter that he would tell his "leader" about him because the reporter asked him about his business activity. "You are hurting Australia very much right now They want to get along with me. Your leader is coming to see me soon. I'm going to tell him about you."
I've heard kindergartners who are more subtle about their threats and tattling. And of course, he feels free to do this on video and in public knowing that the press will yawn.
I hope Cory Booker is right. Does he know something we don't?
Booker at the oversight hearing for Kash Patel this morning: "Here's the thing, Mr. Patel. I think you're not gonna be around long. I think this might be your last oversight hearing. Because as much as you supplicate yourself to the will of Donald Trump and not the Constitution, Donald Trump has shown us he is not loyal to people like you."
He is predicting that Patel will soon be fired. AND he brought the fire to the hearing. I appreciated his passion, especially after Patel's rude and insulting behavior to other Dems on the panel.
Good job, Sen. Booker!!!
First it was Kilmeade saying to kill the homeless, now it's Gutfield
saying that the MN politician who was killed is a "bullshit' example of political violence. Just flat out saying it doesn't count. He apparently tried to say that it was interpersonal, but there is no evidence of that.
The pretense of fairness is gone. They are just throwing it all out there now. In a way, it's refreshing. But someone does need to call them on it in no uncertain terms. Just letting these statements hang out there without fact checking is not a plan.
I don't know if it's my imagination, but I don't think so.
Does anyone think the media has gone from bad to worse since the Charlie Kirk murder? They seem to be not even bothering to do "both sides" anymore. It's just RW spin and "leftist" bashing 24/7.
Of course there are exceptions, but as a whole, I think they are scared. I think the Dowd firing spooked them from the beginning.
Worse, it seems to be seeping into their coverage on other topics. They tiptoe around the Lisa Cook firing and how she did not do what they claim by saying it's "disputed", even though she has shown proof and the administration hasn't. They don't even mention Epstein anymore. They cover the Hyundai debacle as though it were a simple case of immigration enforcement without mentioning that it has caused an international controversy that will probably cause economic hardship in THIS country. Little mention of the Russian drones attacking a Nato ally. I could go on and on.
There is no celebrating on the left.
That's what Dems appearing on network and cable news need to say. Make the talking heads prove they're wrong. The corporate media is falling all over itself to carry water for the RW and allow false allegations from trump and maga to fill most of their airwaves. We need to call it out simply, bluntly, and directly.
If there are ANY actual examples of "celebrations" by real people, the media should be forced to reveal them. Show the clips, the quotes, whatever.
If Dems don't start speaking up, the media and maga will learn that they can get away with ANYTHING. Consider this a warm up for the midterms and the next election because both entities are just going to get worse. Call them liars. Make them prove the BS they're spouting. It's really not difficult.
