In_The_Wind — where are you sister?

I haven't seen you in the past few days. I hope you are out enjoying some nice weather up in your area !

An American goes to Iran:

and he gives a lecture about his travels.

I posted this because I think this is a very important issue. IRanians are human beings. They live in a theological society. This is a report from a person (who I admit, I admire) that lives in our country.

Iran is not just its politics. It's not only its government.

And we can learn a lot about this lecture.

I love living in the DC area — this is one reason why:

My husband works very close to the capitol building and often takes walks around it for lunch. Today being a spectacularly sunny dat with the ice melting and we have reached a balmy 45 degrees, he said he was going for a walk.

I went out myself to walk the dog.

When I got back, here was his message to me:

I decided to take a walk around the Capitol building at lunch. There was a woman there struggling with some sort of protest display - she had an Israeli flag, a Gadsden flag, and an upside-down American flag. The wind was creating havoc with them.

Oh yeah - she was also wearing an Uncle Sam hat.

I wish he's gotten a picture of that hot mess.

My Oma. [Updated April 11, 2015] My Oma has left us.

Below is my post from February. She did recover from her last illness, but she was tired.

Last night she went to sleep and passed on in gentle peace. I am still waiting for my sisters and Mom to figure out the funeral arrangements and then I will be heading to NY to be with family.

If there is a heaven, I would like to believe that she is with my Opa and all of her 8 bothers and sisters.

Thank you everyone for your kind words in this post. I didn't want to make a new OP, so I just updated this one.

***************************OP**********************
She is 95 years old. She is not going well this afternoon.

I now live here in Alexandria, Virginia and she is in a nursing home Rhinebeck NY. She is not doing well, she has pneumonia and I got a call from my sister that her blood pressure is dropping. WE are all from Long Island NY. Wellm Oma is actually from Brmehaven, Germany. She came to the States about 1921?

It doesn't look good. This woman has the lives of about 2-3 cats. I told my sister that we would wait until tomorrow to see what happens before we get in the truck and go north.

My Oma. I share her with my two sisters. And I have one niece (almost 21) and two nephews that call her Gross Oma. This is a painting I did of her about 10 years ago.

I based it off many pictures but eventually used this photo:

I will stop the pictures soon. Having said that: I have an awesome Sir Duke update. (pic heavy)

X-posted from the Pets group. http://www.democraticunderground.com/116120542

A few weeks ago I found a Facebook group called People United to Promote the Proper Identification of English Setters and hubby put up some of these pictures to the group.

A woman replied and said that he looked just like one of her dogs puppies. At this point, all we knew about Duke was that he was surrendered in West Virginia. Strange coincidence, This woman was from W. Va too and her Dogs name was Sadie May. That kinda made me curious as Duke had a sister at our shelter called Ellie may. I told her that and what Duke original name was and we were all shocked that it was indeed her former dog.

She was going thru a lot of things in her life and could not keep three dogs. So she felt the best thing was to surrender them with a guarantee that they would find good homes. She still has the momma Dog, Sadie.

She is so happy about this and we are going to try to find out where Ellie may have went.

The very best part is that she took tons of pictures of him growing up. Just yesterday Hubby and I were wondering what he looked like as a puppy.

So here is a picture of Duke as a puppy!

The chances of this happening are amazing! I have been given permission to post even more pictures!

That is Duke in the middle.

A little tiny baby Duke.

Chunky boy….

Chilling..

His mom and his sister…

I'll never be too old to enjoy this movie! 'The Breakfast Club' set to return to theaters in March!

http://www.today.com/popculture/breakfast-club-30th-anniversary-movie-returns-theaters-march-2D80491243?cid=sm_fbn

To celebrate the film's 30th anniversary, the John Hughes-directed film will again play in theaters on March 26 and March 31, thanks to Fathom Events, Universal Pictures Home Entertainment, and BY Experience, reports Entertainment Weekly.

The film has undergone a restoration, and the screenings will be accompanied by a short film that features comments from cast members and teen-movie directors like Diablo Cody and Amy Heckerling.

Tickets go on sale Friday, with an anniversary edition of the movie out on Blu-Ray and DVD March 10.

I was kinda the basket case. No really, I was.

Friend: This Was No ‘Parking’ Murder

http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2015/02/12/friend-this-was-no-parking-murder.html

Last week when I, along with 13 other Muslim Americans, met with President Obama at the White House, I explained my concern that given the recent rise in anti-Muslim bigotry, I feared that we could wake up one day to the news that someone had gone on a shooting spree targeting Muslim Americans.

Tragically, less than a week later, that very thing may have happened in North Carolina.

Yes, I know that we can’t be certain at this moment exactly why the gunman murdered three Muslim-American students—Deah Shaddy Barakat, 23; Yusor Mohammad Abu-Salha, 21; and Razan Mohammad Abu-Salha, 19—in cold blood. And true, the local police have noted that its “preliminary investigation indicates that the crime was motivated by an ongoing neighbor dispute over parking.”

But I doubt very much that anti-Muslim hate didn’t play some role in this attack. I say that based on a few factors. One is my conversation with two close friends of the victims and the comments made by the father of the two sisters killed. Second, we can’t ignore that on the day of the shooting we saw wall-to-wall media coverage about the death of the American aid worker and ISIS hostage Kayla Mueller. And finally, we have to factor in the overall rise in anti-Muslim rhetoric we have witnessed on both the right and the left recently.
More at link.

I may have missed it, but I don't believe this has been posted on DU. The entire piece is worth a read.

Muslims in this country are scared; they are concerned. They have every right to be and I wish they did not.

The rhetoric is getting far too ratcheted up.

(X-posting from the lounge)

A month ago I was giddy with de-lite to introduce you to out new fur baby, Sir Duke.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/116120070

Today is his one month anniversary with us. HE has happily gained a point (needs about 4 more) and is getting above nicely with our three kittehs, I thought it would be nice to share some of them with you!

Duke with his Pa(w):

When he falls asleep at night he is like a floppy floppy muppet.

Hanging out at our fave mexican El Salvadorian place (the weather was 70 degrees this past sunday — you bet we went out for margaritas and lunch!)

This crazy dog actually loves watching YouTube videos, here is is watching birds, but he also likes to watch the Stephanie Miller show on FSTV!)

He who statures at birds… (really, he just stares at them.)

Here he just looks happy, and wants to sing for the Spring to get here!
