Planned Parenthood quietly built massive 'megaclinic' in Illinois near Missouri border

This article is from 2019. I don't recall seeing this before. It sounds as though they were planning ahead for a time when Roe would be overturned.

The 18,000-square-foot clinic which will open later this month in Fairview Heights, Illinois and is equipped to provide services to 11,000 patients, Planned Parenthood announced Tuesday.

Have You Noticed America has Gotten Meaner?

“Have you noticed that people are getting meaner?” the villain asks in a Paramount+ promo for their new show Evil.
“What does it mean?” asks the “nice” character.
“It means,” says the evil character with a note of triumph in her voice, “that your side is losing.”

And here we are. The lede of an above-the-fold story in yesterday’s Washington Post lays it out:

“In the past 24 hours, there has been an uptick in the number of violent threats against lawmakers on the House select committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection at the U.S. Capitol, and all lawmakers on the committee are likely to receive a security detail…”

We need to discuss the violence and threats of violence now endemic to the GOP, because they signal a hopefully reversible — but possibly terminal — slide into fascism.

Judge Luttig reveals why he spoke so slowly at Jan. 6 hearing

There has been a great deal of speculation as to why retired Judge Michael Luttig spoke so slowly at Thursday's hearing of the House Select Committee Investigating the Jan. 6 Attack on the U.S. Capitol.

"I like how this guy treats every line of his testimony like he's engraving it on a national monument. And frankly, he really *is* engraving it for history. And he seems to know it," Vanity Fair writer Joe Hagan wrote in a Twitter thread.

"I also respect, despite how halting he may sound, that Luttig is not setting himself up to be a mere soundbite maker. He's speaking to history, not TV," he wrote. "His sobriety, his graveness, his hallowedness, is so foreign to our modern sensibilities - but that's the point. That is the precise point."

The thread was noticed by the former judge.

Tom Cotton answered the email I sent asking for common sense gun reform.

Thank you for contacting me about gun control. It's good to hear from you, as always.

The recent shooting at an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas, is a terrible tragedy. I support measures to protect our schools and keep violent criminals off the streets.

I support the fundamental right to keep and bear arms, as guaranteed by the Second Amendment to our Constitution. Every year, thousands of lawful gun owners across America depend on this right to defend themselves from violent criminals. As a combat veteran, my soldiers and I kept our rifles within arms’ reach because of a fundamental truth: at critical moments, your life can depend on being armed and ready to defend yourself.

Some of the gun-related proposals introduced in Congress may be well-intentioned, but would infringe on the constitutional rights of law-abiding citizens and turn responsible gun owners into felons.  Our policy priorities should focus on enforcing existing laws, improving security at schools and other gathering places, ensuring access to appropriate mental-health services for mentally ill individuals, and keeping violent criminals off the streets.

Rest assured that I will continue to oppose efforts to infringe on the rights of law-abiding Americans, while also working with members of both parties to find ways to make our communities safer.

I’m honored to serve as your senator. You, your family, and our state will remain on my mind and close to my heart in my duties. Always feel free to call my office at (202) 224-2353, or visit  www.cotton.senate.gov  for further information.

Sincerely,

Tom Cotton
United States Senator
