Random stuff

San Francisco Bay; looking across Ft. Baker and the Presidio Marina (from Vista Point on the Marin side of the Golden Gate) toward Berkeley and Albany on the far shore. The line of grayish-white structures on the shoreline below the tanker are old gun battery positions that used to be part of the bay's defensive system.

I'm really not sure why I like this image as much as I do. I caught it at a small outdoor market in Barcelona. The day was very hot and humid, and the lady was using the fan to cool off. If you also find this photo interesting, please comment as to what you like about it.

Roman Forum, Temple of Romulus

Temple of Romulus (circa. 307 CE)

Description of the Temple of Romulus

A brick faced concrete building with a concrete dome, the temple of Romulus incorporates elements brought from earlier buildings. Known as spolia, this re-use of early fragments was to become characteristics of Roman work of this date notable in early Christian buildings. At the temple of Romulus the bronze doors and their marble frame were brought from a Severan building of ad 200, while the flanking columns of red porphyry and the carved lintel over them came from other sources. The building was flanked by two long apsidal halls, now largely disappeared save for the two Carystian green marble columns, also spolia, of the right hand porch. Spolia is the re-use of earlier building material or decorative sculpture on new monuments. The building is located between the Temple of Antoninus and Faustina and the Basilica of Maxentius.

Barcelona Building Front

Blew the sky out, but the glass on this place was impressive (I don't recall the building's use).

Beanie Babies?

My girls were born 9 years apart, and between the two of them I think we have an example of every Beanie Baby made. Most are in excellent shape.

Is there any value in these, or were they just an over-hyped stuffed toy?

I’m sure I could Google this, but I thought that I would bring the question to the DU experts.

105* in Fairfield/Cordelia

Drove past a paving crew earlier. Can’t imagine how hot it feels working on that asphalt.
