Barbra Streisand Can't Get Trump Out of Her Head. So She Sang About Him.

Barbra Streisand has a new album, one that is the musical embodiment of her singular dislike of President Trump, and the rare instance of her political views entering her music. One track already released, “Don’t Lie to Me,” is a direct address to her fellow native New Yorker who now holds the Oval Office.

There are similar messages throughout the album, “Walls,” due on Friday, which also includes a medley of John Lennon’s “Imagine” and Louis Armstrong’s “What a Wonderful World.” The title track warns that people now “build them where they shouldn’t be.”

In a phone interview from California, Streisand spoke to The New York Times about a range of topics, from her music to presidential power to the remake of “A Star Is Born” to pancakes. But her politics engulfed her. She answered questions about the #MeToo movement by discussing Hillary Clinton’s loss and her belief that Senator Al Franken, the Minnesota Democrat, should not have quit after he was accused of groping or trying to kiss several women. A question about her last visit to Brooklyn elicited a rumination on democracy and truth. Those who recall her attacks on Senator John McCain in 2008 — and the Arizona Republican’s butchering of “The Way We Were” on “Saturday Night Live” (“Do I know how to sing? About as well as she knows how to govern America.”) — might be amused to hear her now praising the senator, her anti-Trump compatriot.

Pointing to Trump’s rhetoric, attorneys for Kansas militiaman convicted of mosque bomb plot ask for a more lenient sentence

Attorneys representing a Kansas man convicted of a 2016 plot to massacre Somali Muslim refugees by bombing a mosque and apartment complex in Garden City, Kan., have asked a federal judge to consider a more lenient sentence, arguing that President Trump’s inflammatory rhetoric should be taken into account as the “backdrop” for the case.

Patrick Eugene Stein faces life in prison for conspiring with two other men to carry out the attack, which was supposed to take place on the day after the 2016 presidential election. On Monday, his attorneys filed a memo in U.S. District Court in the District of Kansas, requesting that Stein receive a sentence of no more than 15 years. They note that Stein was an “early and avid supporter” of Trump, and argue that the climate in the months leading up to the 2016 election should be taken in account when evaluating the comments prosecutors used to build their case.

During the trial in the spring, prosecutors played back recordings in which Stein described Muslim immigrants as “cockroaches” that needed to be exterminated, and talked about killing Muslims with weapons dipped in pigs' blood. Two months before the conversation took place, The Washington Post’s Abigail Hauslohner noted, Trump had referenced a questionable tale about Gen. John J. Pershing killing Muslims with bullets dipped in pigs' blood.

"The court cannot ignore the circumstances of one of the most rhetorically mold-breaking, violent, awful, hateful and contentious presidential elections in modern history, driven in large measure by the rhetorical China shop bull who is now our president,” James Pratt and Michael Shultz, Stein’s defense attorneys, wrote in their sentencing memo, as HuffPost first reported.

Sarah Sanders: Is there any tragedy the Washington Post won't exploit to attack President...

Is there any tragedy the Washington Post won’t exploit to attack President @realDonaldTrump? The evil act of anti-Semitism in Pittsburg was committed by a coward who hated President Trump because @POTUS is such an unapologetic defender of the Jewish community and state of Israel.

In Charlottesville they chanted, "Jews will not replace us!"

The President responded by calling them, "Very good people."

THIS WEEK he said "globalists" were hurting the world. "

Globalist" is the white nationalist term for "Jew."

You are LYING.

Josh Marshall: Straight out of the Protocols of the Elders of Zion. Just moments ago, Lou Dobbs...

Straight out of the Protocols of the Elders of Zion. Just moments ago, Lou Dobbs guest Chris Farrell (head of Judicial Watch) says Caravan is being funded/directed by the "Soros-occupied State Department".

For those who don't know this world, "ZOG" is a staple of white supremacist/neo-Nazi websites/literature etc. Stands for "Zionist occupied government", i.e., US govt being controlled by Jews. This guy knows exactly what lever he's pulling when he uses this phrase.

Chris Farrell, the guy in the interview is "Director of Investigations" at @JudicialWatch

Final point. Shooter was clearly a virulent anti-semite of long standing. But what appears to have triggered his rampage is exactly THIS conspiracy theory, that Soros and Jews are funding/directing the caravan. This is little the guy's beef. Pushed on FoxBiz not 12 hrs later.

Social media platform used by suspected Pittsburgh shooter banned from PayPal

Source: The Hill

Gab.com, a social media company that was used by the suspect of Saturday's shooting at a synagogue in Pittsburgh, received a notice from PayPal Saturday afternoon saying it would be kicked off the payment platform.

“We are hereby notifying you that we are terminating our relationship with you pursuant to PayPal’s User Agreement. Under the PayPal User Agreement, PayPal, at its sole discretion, reserves the right to terminate your account for any reason and at any time upon notice to you,” the website said in an email to Gab’s CEO, which Gab then posted to its Twitter page.

...

Gab, which describes itself as “The Home Of Free Speech Online,” rejected claims it bore any responsibility for Saturday’s shooting at Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburg’s Squirrel Hill neighborhood that left 11 dead.

The suspected shooter, 46-year-old Robert Bowers, posted on his Gab page that “jews are the children of satan.”

Please join me in giving a collective hug to DU's Jewish members and their loved ones.

The attacks on the Jewish community have soared since Trump took office: bomb threats/vandalism of Jewish community centers, desecration of Jewish graves, chants of "Jews will not replace us", hateful signs and symbols becoming more and more visible on the daily... murder.

I know this is just an internet message board, but I hope you know that there is true feeling behind this small gesture...

The Twitcess tweets: America is stronger than the acts of a depraved bigot and anti-semite.

America is stronger than the acts of a depraved bigot and anti-semite.

All good Americans stand with the Jewish people to oppose acts of terror & share the horror, disgust & outrage over the massacre in Pittsburgh.

We must unite against hatred & evil. God bless those affected

In her new book, “Women Who Work,” Ivanka Trump writes about how her family observes the weekly Jewish holiday. “From sundown Friday to Saturday night, my family and I observe the Shabbat,” she wrote. “During this time, we disconnect completely — no emails, no TV, no phone calls, no Internet. We enjoy uninterrupted time together and it’s wonderful." She added: “It’s enormously important to unplug and devote that time to each other. We enjoy long meals together, we read, we take walks in the city, we nap, and just hang out.”
