Sometimes. when I'm grocery shopping, I'll look at the groceries of the person in front of me...
.
.
.
... ESPECIALLY if they just have a coupla items... and I try to guess what
they're going to cook. Sometimes. my curiosity overwhelms me and I ask
them if they're going to cook "such-and-such". When I'm right (which I
often am) they seem to get a kick out of it.
.
Yesterday, the woman at the checkout in front of me had English muffins,
a dozen eggs and a bag of chocolate chips.
.
I decided not to ask... as I really LIKE the thought that somewhere in
Tucson this morning is a young woman and her children enjoying a
Sunday breakfast that includes chocolate chip omelettes.

I wish the prompting to provide personal info -- ESPECIALLY gender -- were more prominent.
.
.
.
I had to jump through some hoops to find out where (and if -- and I could) to
provide that info.
.
.
Two things: It would make pronoun choice much less awkward (he/she and
him-his/her-hers becomes awkward very quickly). Assuming "he/his" with no
clear indication seems sexist... and assuming "she/her" has (ironically) always
struck me as kinda patronizing and/or uber-PC. Just my personal opinion -- I
do my best to go with "he/she" when stuck.
.
.
Probably having to do with differences in the format, the majority of usernames
on DU2 had gender identification and the ones on DU3 do not.
.
.
It would be grammatically less exhausting.

Prior to that, I visited my folks here in Tucson once or twice annually since 1980 (when
my folks retired here from Michigan.

I'm pretty well-traveled and have lived in many places -- my three favorite being here in
Tucson, northern Michigan in the river country and southern Germany in the mountains
along the Austrian border.

Kali is one of my two current best friends and has been for over a decade. We worked
(and drank ) together on some community radio issues here in the past.
.
She's the one who convinced me (freakin' HARASSED me is more like it) into checking out
DU originally.

Southern Arizona is kind of a "lesser-populated" blue oasis in a largely (even sometimes
embarassingly) Red state. They're much more art, LGBT, liberal etc-friendly here than
elsewhere in the state. As a member of a distinct minority group here (liberals), it's nice
to have a forum for info, support and friendship here at DU.
