TexasTowelie's JournalPolice chief said he shot wife moving gun in bed
ATLANTA A police chief in Georgia told a 911 dispatcher he accidentally shot his sleeping wife while moving a handgun that was in their bed, according to a recording released Friday.
Peachtree City police Chief William McCollom called for help at 4:17 a.m. New Year's Day and reported accidentally shooting his 58-year-old wife, Margaret, while they both slept. The Associated Press obtained a recording of the call Friday through an open records request. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is looking into the shooting.
McCollom spoke calmly in the audio recording, telling a dispatcher he needed medical help for an accidental gunshot wound at his suburban home, about 30 miles southwest of Atlanta.
"Who shot her?" the dispatcher asked.
"Me," McCollom said. "The gun was in the bed, I went to move it, and I put it to a side and it went off."

Beaumont Man Hit by Vehicle, Stabbed Amid Argument with Mother of his children
Police say a 34-year-old Beaumont man suffered minor injuries when the mother of his children hit him with a vehicle then stabbed him during an argument in a parking lot.
In a statement Thursday, Beaumont Police Sgt. Rob Flores said the incident occurred around 5 p.m. Wednesday in the parking lot of a business on Washington Boulevard.
Witnesses said the man and woman argued before she hit him with her vehicle. She later got out, stabbed him in the leg, then got back in and tried to hit him again with her vehicle.
The woman eventually drove off, but later phoned police. She was identified as 30-year-old Andrea Williams of Beaumont. She told investigators that the man, who hasn't been identified, was the father of her children.

University of Incarnate Word officer in Cameron Redus shooting resigns, school confirms
SAN ANTONIO University of the Incarnate Word police officer Cpl. Chris Carter, who shot and killed UIW student Cameron Redus in December of 2013, has resigned, a university spokesperson confirmed Thursday.
Carter submitted his resignation from the University on Dec. 10, four days following the one-year anniversary of Redus' death, said Margaret Garcia, a spokeswoman for the school. Garcia refused to comment further regarding his resignation.
Mark Hall, a Redus family spokesman, said he first heard on Wednesday from media that Carter had resigned, but he says the family has not been contacted by school officials yet.
"I can't say that I'm surprised," Hall said.

Crackpot Utopia: The Year in Republican Crazy, Part 8
Crackpot Utopia: A dream world as envisioned by republicans; a manifestation or expression of the deranged, warped alternate universe inhabited by republicans, at least in their minds. See also: Bachmannism, Boehneresque.1. Things To Come: Forward Into The Past!
In the last installment of "Crackpot Utopia," I went on about how the 2016 Republican Primary Freak Show has already begun in 2014 with the absolute nuttery of Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, a man who is so highly thought of in republican minds that he is considered presidential material and was once even given the honor of presenting the annual on-air rebuttal to President Obama's State of the Union speech.
Did you think that the last presidential election cycle's republican primary season was the biggest freak show you'd ever seen? Well, it seems that this event gets freakier every time, as many of the old faces, and some new ones, start jockeying for position.
Since it's already begun, I've decided to take the leap and take a guess at what the Crackpot Party and their media allies will be touting as their Ideal Republican Presidential Tickets and Slogans!
