It isn't over: DOJ still has two investigations into Michael Brown shooting open,

including one into Wilson and another into the conduct of the Ferguson police, and other civil rights groups are also investigating possible civil actions:

Ferguson Indictment: Officer Darren Wilson, Ferguson Police Department Could Still Face Civil Charges
By Alessandria Masi@alessandriamasia.masi@ibtimes.com on November 24 2014 10:42 PM

Officer Darren Wilson was not indicted by a grand jury Monday, but the battle for justice in the fatal Ferguson shooting is far from over. The U.S. Department of Justice is conducting its own investigation, the state could revoke Wilson's law enforcement license and several civil rights groups could file civil suits against both Wilson and the Ferguson Police Department.

{snip}

There are currently two open Department of Justice investigations related to Brown’s death: One probe into Wilson and the other into the Ferguson Police Department’s practices, according to McClatchy. The first could find Wilson guilty of violating Brown’s civil rights. The DOJ must prove “without a reasonable doubt” that Wilson knowingly and intentionally “deprived” Brown of “a right or privilege protected by the Constitution of laws of the United States,” according to federal law via McClatchy. However, experts don’t believe this is a likely outcome.

“Criminal enforcement of constitutional rights is not something that is easily pursued, Samuel Bagenstos, a University of Michigan law professor, recently told the Associated Press. It really requires building a case very carefully, very painstakingly.”

The DOJ and several civil rights organizations are investigating a possible case against the Ferguson Police Department for mistreatment of protesters who have been almost daily fixtures on Ferguson's streets since August. The DOJ is also investigating the department's practices and relationship with constituents prior to Brown’s death. When protests began, some police officers were seen wearing “I am Darren Wilson” bracelets.

Obama announces immigration overhaul shielding 4 million from deportation

Source: Washington Post

By David Nakamura, Robert Costa and David A. Fahrenthold November 20 at 6:17 PM

The Obama administration will begin accepting applications this spring from illegal immigrants who are seeking deferred deportations under President Obama’s new executive action program, and those who qualify will be granted protections for three years, administration officials said.

The officials unveiled new details of Obama’s plans ahead of his prime-time address on Thursday evening as the White House sought to portray his actions as an effort to ensure that the U.S. immigration system focuses on deporting the highest-priority immigrants, such as felons, gang members and recent border-crossers.

Obama is expected to say he will stop deportations for a certain group of illegal immigrants: parents whose children are already U.S. citizens or legal permanent residents. The protection would apply only to parents who have lived in the United States for five years or more.

There are about 3.7 million illegal immigrants who meet those criteria, according to a report from the Migration Policy Institute. Under Obama’s plan, some of them would also be able to apply for work permits, which now are available only to immigrants with legal status.

{snip}

According to prepared excerpts, Obama plans to say that mass deportation of the nation’s more than 11 million illegal immigrants “would be both impossible and contrary to our character.”

Nixon lost to JFK in 1960. Two Kennedy murders later, in 1968, he won.

Hmm. Nixon started out in California as a red-baiting GOP attack rat à la Atwater-Rove, and as Eisenhower's veep, ran the military industrial complex Ike warned us about in his hand-off to Kennedy. As president Nixon ran one dirty operation after another while he and Kissinger carpet-bombed Laos and Cambodia to atoms. And when he finally pulled the plug on Vietnam as he'd promised to repeatedly to get elected and reelected in 1972, an FBI agent ratted him out and that was the end of Tricky Dick.

Watch Nixon lie -- Nixon vs. Kennedy 11/8/1960

Nixon didn't have a liberal bone in his crooked body and doesn't deserve the time of day on DU. He is certainly not to the left of any Democratic president and that nonsense holds about as much water as an Alex Jones podcast.

Just an F.Y.I.

If there are others, by all means add them to the list. But as far as I can tell, other than the Clintons who are supported by Third Way, this is it. Barack Obama is not on this list and there does not seem to be any link between Obama and the DLC or Third Way.

Cory Booker beats Jeff Bell to win re-election in N.J.'s U.S. Senate race

Source: New Jersey On-Line

WOODBRIDGE — Cory Booker, the celebrity Newark mayor-turned U.S. Senator, has won another six years in the Senate.

The Associated Press projects that Booker, a Democrat who took office just one year ago after winning a special election, has defeated his Republican challenger, Jeff Bell, to win a full six-year term.

Booker’s win extends Democrats’ winning streak in New Jersey U.S. Senate races to 38 years.

Booker, 45, served as Newark mayor for seven years before winning last year’s election to replace the late U.S. Sen. Frank Lautenberg (D-N.J.). A high-profile politician before winning the office with deep relationships with Holllywood actors, tech gurus and Wall Street financiers, Booker kept a low profile for the last year as he sought to learn the ropes in the U.S. Senate.

Bell, 70, was New Jersey’s Republican U.S. Senate nominee in 1978 and ran unsuccessfully for the party’s nomination in 1982. In 1983, he moved to northern Virginia, and worked as a political consultant and conservative policy wonk in Washington. Bell moved back to New Jersey in February to challenge Booker.
