Historians demolish John Yoo for claim Founding Fathers wouldn't want Trump impeached in an election

Published 3 mins ago

By Tom Boggioni

Comments made by attorney and law professor John Yoo on Fox News on the Founding Father’s intentions about impeachment received a brutal debunking by two historians — including one of his colleagues at UC Berkeley.

Appearing with Fox News personality Laura Ingraham, lawyer Yoo — who is infamous for providing President George W. Bush’s administration with legal justifications for the torture of prisoners of war — claimed that the Founding Fathers would object to the president being impeached in an election year.

According to Yoo, Democrats are getting it all wrong when they say the Constitution compels them to hold impeachment proceedings against Trump just one year before the election.

“I’m glad they’re reading the Constitution and citing the framers for once but they’ve got it exactly backwards,” Yoo asserted. “What the framers thought was the American people would judge a president at the time of an election, they would have never wanted an impeachment within a year of an election, it’s up to the American people.”

Trump kills irony again by signing 'transparency' executive order while stonewalling Democrats

President Donald Trump is expected to sign an executive order on “transparency” on Wednesday.

According to The White House, Trump will have a 3:15 p.m. ET signing at the White House regarding executive orders on transparency in federal guidance and enforcement.

The event comes as Trump and his aides have stonewalled a congressional impeachment inquiry.

The irony was not lost on Twitter.

State Department rattled by impeachment inquiry revelations

By BEN FOX, MATTHEW LEE and LOLITA C. BALDOR 44 minutes ago

WASHINGTON (AP) — The State Department has been deeply shaken by the rapidly escalating impeachment inquiry, as revelations that President Donald Trump enlisted diplomats to dig up dirt on a political rival threaten to tarnish its reputation as a nonpartisan arm of U.S. foreign policy, former senior officials say.

A department where morale was already low under a president who, at times, has seemed hostile to its mission is now reeling from days of disclosures that place it at the center of an escalating political scandal, according to former diplomats who fear that the turmoil will damage American foreign policy objectives around the world.

“This has just been a devastating three years for the Department of State,” said Heather Conley, a senior policy adviser at the State Department under President George W. Bush. “You can just feel there is a sense of disbelief. They don’t know who will be subpoenaed next.”

The first blow was the release of a rough transcript of the July 25 call between Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy in which Trump pressed for an investigation of the son of former Vice President Joe Biden, a Democratic rival.

Trump just launched a stealth attack on seniors' health care

Published 2 hours ago

Watch out, older Americans and people with disabilities! President Trump just announced a plan to give corporate health insurers more control over your health care. His new executive order calls for “market-based” pricing, which would drive up costs for everyone with Medicare, eviscerate traditional Medicare, and steer more people into for-profit “Medicare Advantage” plans.

Seema Verma, the Trump appointee who heads the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), may not have warned Trump about the slew of government audits revealing that many Medicare Advantage plans pose “an imminent and serious risk to the health of… enrollees.” They also overcharge taxpayers to the tune of $10 billion a year.

In the last few years alone, CMS’ limited audits have highlighted major issues with Medicare Advantage plans. Reports from the Department of Health and Human Services Office of the Inspector General (OIG) and Government Accountability Office (GAO) have underscored these issues. They have recommended that CMS increase its oversight of Medicare Advantage plans and its enforcement efforts.

A Medicare Payment Advisory Commission report indicates that the problems with Medicare Advantage may be even more far-reaching than the government audits indicate. The Medicare Advantage plans have failed to turn over reliable and complete claims data, as required by law. Without this data, it’s not possible to know whether they are covering the health care services they are paid to provide or to oversee them to the extent necessary.

Trump talks Medicare in a retirement enclave where doctors are a golf-cart ride away.

THE VILLAGES, Fla. — It was happy hour on a typical Thursday, and Debi Hahn was twisting and shouting with the rest of the M-T Heads (pronounced: empty heads) at a bar on the main town square. Today, her right hand was wrapped in a purple bandage matching her colorful top.

She and a friend were talking about surgeries, cancer and rising treatment costs, even in a community with a health care model seen as an innovative — and frugal — alternative to traditional Medicare. “I have a lot of squamous cells,” the 67-year-old confided, detailing her string of past, present and future skin cancer treatments and her $95-a-month cost for an experimental chemotherapy cream.

“Cocktails make it better,” said her friend, whose hand was bandaged too.

Welcome to The Villages, one of America’s largest retirement communities, a sprawling Central Florida haven that bills itself as “Florida’s friendliest hometown” and has a vision to become “America’s healthiest.”

Just great, a place that thinks it just great to have this treasonous asshole to come down and have a chat with have's and looking down there noses at the have not's....................................to basically fuck people over.
And if anyone thinks that a vulture capitalists company will not take this away........................go and ask the ambulance companies in this country and find now what percentage is owned by KKR wall street investment firm.....67%........this is not what was envisioned for Medicare...............so these people are forking over $4,000.00 on average to a private insurance program.....................BS

Private Equity Chases Ambulances

Investment firms have bought up emergency medical service companies, squeezing soaring profits from vulnerable patients.

by Olivia Webb

October 3, 2019

On July 2, 2018, a Boston woman fell into the gap between a subway car and the platform. Passengers rocked the train back and forth, eventually extricating her. Her leg was cut down to the bone. Still, she begged her rescuers not to call an ambulance. “Do you know how much an ambulance costs?” she sobbed. Because there was no choice but to call an ambulance, though, one eventually arrived.

Ambulance services used to be covered by local taxpayers, volunteers, or nonprofit hospitals, part of a suite of services akin to firefighting, which many people took for granted. This remained the status quo for emergency medical services for decades. Then, following the 2008 recession, private equity firms began to buy up ambulance companies. Quality has declined, and prices have shot up. Within ten years, from the recession to the Boston woman falling on the platform, the transformation of ambulance services from community service to luxury good was complete. Under the new paradigm of private equity, poorly maintained ambulance services siphon profit from vulnerable patients.

During the early 19th century, emergency triage occurred only on the battlefield. In the Napoleonic era, when standard war strategy involved lining masses of troops up against one another directly, retaining a critical number of men on the field was of the highest importance. Soldiers who were the least injured received priority under the contemporary triage system, as they could be bandaged quickly and sent back onto the field. Mortally wounded troops were left to die where they fell. Napoleon’s surgeon, Baron Dominique-Jean Larrey, is speculated to have been the first to reverse this order of triage. Under his system, the heavily injured were extracted first to undergo then-new amputation operations that would save their lives.

Some patients are reacting to the new profit-gouging ambulance model by using ridesharing services like Uber and Lyft, and some react like the Boston woman, irrationally begging that an ambulance not be called. But more realistic and long-term solutions exist. Companies could be forced to negotiate with all insurers, ensuring that no patient is left out-of-network. Similarly, surprise billing could be banned, requiring companies to either present fees up front or accept the patient’s insurance payment as a full reimbursement. Another potential solution would be to regulate these companies like community firefighters, ensuring that local or state tax dollars subsidize medical transport as a public utility. Another solution, requiring no legislative or legal action, would be to introduce competition into the system, as with Sentinel Air Medical Alliance. Forcing companies to bid on patient transportation significantly reduces fees.

Each solution arguably has its merits, but what is inarguable is that the current emergency medical transportation system represents a market failure. What was once a community service, provided at little or no charge to the patient, has become a financialized moneymaker for the wealthy. Patients in their most vulnerable state should not be forced to pay monopoly rents to private equity firms. Policymakers, entrepreneurs, and citizens should be outraged at the abusive prices being charged and take action to rectify the problem.

Does Trump Want to Sandbag the Economy?

by Robert Kuttner

October 3, 2019

Economic growth is clearly slowing. Manufacturing output is down, as are exports, thanks to Trump’s trade cold war with China.

The government has run out of stimulus tricks. Even interest rates that are close to zero, plus an immense fiscal jolt in the form of a trillion-dollar deficit (courtesy of Trump’s tax cut for the rich) isn’t fixing what’s broken.

Corporate America is sitting on trillions in profits that it can’t find ways to invest. Thus, stock buybacks.

(This is why massive public investment is the only solution to America’s sagging economy. But I digress—that’s a post for another day.)

What is it with this guy? Does he want to sink his own presidency and chances for re-election? Well, you might try such search terms as Ukraine, treason, civil war, and impeachment, and that old favorite, certifiably insane.

Now, just to make things worse, Trump is launching a new trade war with … wait for it … Europe.
