Warren Was Right To Bring Up Pregnancy Discrimination At Debate Pregnancy
Pregnancy and its effect on women's earning power, as well as workplace discrimination, matters deeply.

Mainstream media called this moment a thud for Elizabeth Warren. The old boys club (personified by Chris Matthews you betcha) can't understand why the lady is so upset.
But it's a far-beneath-the-surface signaling for every woman who has been pregnant and working. Workplace discrimination and pregnancy is not something women type in all caps on Twitter. They just experience it. And suffer in silence.
Elizabeth Warren is giving voice to a common yet silenced experience among American women, period.
Bloomberg's two defenses are "This wouldn't have happened to you in New York City." and "I'm sorry if she heard what she thought she heard, or whatever happened."
Gee Mike, you mean New York City in 2002 complied with the federal law, the Pregnancy Discrimination Act of 1978? Warren had her first child in 1971. Apparently it's all about you and your largesse, again. No, it isn't.
And employers across the country STILL violate that law. The ACLU is on it (tweet from 2018 is still valid).

Schumer Demands DOJ Probe Into Grenell's Foreign Entanglements

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) demanded that the Justice Department investigate acting Director of National Intelligence Richard Grenell over his undisclosed foreign consulting business in a letter on Wednesday.
Schumer asked in the letter to Assistant Attorney General John C. Demers that federal prosecutors investigate whether Grenell broke the law by failing to register under the Foreign Agents Registration Act for work he performed on behalf of a Moldovan politician.
TPM spoke with a Moldovan prosecutor targeted by Grenell as part of his work for the politician on Monday. A former counterintelligence official told TPM that Grenell appeared to have violated FARA by failing to register.
Schumer copied the current head of the FARA unit on the letter, federal prosecutor Brandon Van Grack.
Grenell’s list of unsavory foreign clients has sounded alarm bells beyond the FARA issue, however. Former intelligence officials told TPM that it was unprecedented to have a person overseeing intelligence collection on people he may have formerly held as clients.

There are a multitude of harassment allegations against 2020 candidate and former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg — but apparently that’s Sen. Elizabeth Warren’s (D-MA) problem.
After Tuesday night’s Democratic primary debate, MSNBC host Chris Matthews immediately began his interview with Warren in the spin room by aggressively questioning why she had told the debate moderators that she believed the pregnant employee at Bloomberg’s company who accused the billionaire of telling her to get an abortion.
“Do you believe that the former mayor of New York said that to a pregnant employee?” Matthews asked Warren.
“Well, a pregnant employee sure said that he did,” the senator responded. “Why shouldn’t I believe her? You know, I’m just really tired of this world. This one is personal for me. It really is–”

'Panties in a Bunch': Kansas Official Blew Off Concerns About 2018 Polling Place Move

The House Oversight Committee revealed Wednesday new information about how local election officials in Kansas botched the relocation of a polling place that put Dodge City’s single site for voting at a location more than a mile from the nearest bus stop.
The move by Ford County in 2018 to move the city’s sole polling place outside city limits prompted an ACLU lawsuit and national controversy, particularly because the city’s population is 60 percent Hispanic and the new location was not accessible by public transport or even sidewalk.
The move also prompted an investigation from the newly Democratic controlled House Oversight Committee, which also released on Wednesday details of parallel investigations into voting rights debacles in Texas and Georgia.
According to an update to those investigations the committee unveiled Wednesday, Ford County Clerk Debbie Cox dismissed concerns about how the relocation would affect voters, particularly those who don’t drive.

Arctic 'doomsday' food vault welcomes millionth seed variety

OSLO (Reuters) - A vault in the Arctic built to preserve seeds for rice, wheat and other food staples contains one million varieties with the addition on Tuesday of specimens grown by Cherokee Indians and the estate of Britain’s Prince Charles.
The Svalbard Global Seed Vault, built on a mountainside in 2008, was designed as a storage facility to protect vital crop seeds against the worst cataclysms of nuclear war or disease and safeguard global food supplies.
Dubbed the “doomsday vault”, the facility lies on the island of Spitsbergen in the archipelago of Svalbard, halfway between Norway and the North Pole, and is only opened a few times a year in order to preserve the seeds inside.
On Tuesday, 30 gene banks deposited seeds, also including offerings from India, Mali and Peru.
The Royal Botanical Gardens at Kew in Britain banked seeds harvested from the meadows of Prince Charles’ private residence, Highgrove.

Facebook to ban misleading ads about coronavirus

(Reuters) - Facebook Inc (FB.O) said on Wednesday it would ban advertisements referring to any cures or prevention around the coronavirus outbreak, and those that create a sense of urgency around the situation.
The coronavirus disease, believed to have originated in the Chinese city of Wuhan late last year, has killed more than 2,700 people.
The announcement by the social-media giant comes as it faces increasing regulatory scrutiny over the type of content posted on its platform, specifically items reflecting extreme ideologies and fake news.
Last month, Facebook said that it would remove content about the virus “with false claims or conspiracy theories that have been flagged by leading global health organizations and local health authorities”, joining companies like TikTok and Pinterest.
