Annual Gun Law Score Card - 2014

X-posted from GCRA.
http://gunlawscorecard.org/

Every year, more than 30,000 Americans die from gun violence. But there’s more to the story. The Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence has been fighting for smart gun laws for over 20 years, and we’ve noticed a trend: the states with stronger gun regulation have lower gun death rates, and the states with weaker regulation have higher gun death rates.

By grading all 50 states on their gun laws and showing the clear correlation between smart gun laws and reduced gun violence, we can encourage state legislators to adopt the common-sense solutions that will save lives. And not just at home—we found that states with the weakest gun laws are also responsible for trafficking the most crime guns.

The good news is that there’s been tremendous progress. Since the horrific tragedy at Sandy Hook in 2012, 37 states have passed an unprecedented 99 laws strengthening gun regulation. Ten states have enacted major overhauls.

We grade the states each year to urge our leaders to build on the momentum for smart gun laws in America, stand up to the gun lobby, and not rest until the entire country has an A+.

Makes me proud that my state of AZ scored an F.

My wife just said the most profound thing.

She said that while growing up, she was taught to hate and distrust the USSR, and why that was?
She stated that we should be solid allies in the fight against radical terrorists, they threaten both nations, and the world at large.
I couldn't really answer her as I was raised the same way.

I want to thank the person that so generously gave me a heart.

I think I know how it was, and if I'm correct, thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Sandy Hook Lawsuit Against Gun Manufacturer Moved to Federal Court

MILFORD, Conn. (Reuters) - Gunmaker Remington won a bid to move a lawsuit by families of the victims of the Sandy Hook school massacre from state to federal court, officials said on Thursday.

The move could help Remington by taking the suit out of the hands of a state system that might be influenced by local issues, said Timothy Lytton, a professor at Albany Law School.

"The defendants must believe they have a better chance of stopping the lawsuit in federal court than in state court," he said, adding that federal courts have a track record of rejecting gun manufacturer liability cases.

Now that it's been moved to the Federal Court system, what little chance the plaintiff's had in State Court has now disappeared and will now almost certainly be dismissed due to the PLCAA.

Democratic Party Position on Gun Control

"Firearms. We recognize that the individual right to bear arms is an important part of the American tradition, and we will preserve Americans' Second Amendment right to own and use firearms. We believe that the right to own firearms is subject to reasonable regulation. We understand the terrible consequences of gun violence; it serves as a reminder that life is fragile, and our time here is limited and precious. We believe in an honest, open national conversation about firearms. We can focus on effective enforcement of existing laws, especially strengthening our background check system, and we can work together to enact commonsense improvements—like reinstating the assault weapons ban and closing the gun show loophole—so that guns do not fall into the hands of those irresponsible, law-breaking few."

Most of this I agree, what I don't agree with is another useless AWB.

Dad confronts kidnapper, saves 5-year-old daughter

SALT LAKE CITY — A set of Utah parents were awakened Friday to an unsettling noise for 4:30 in the morning: the sound of their front door opening and their 5-year-old daughter talking.

When the father rushed outside in his pajama pants and hoodie he saw the terrifying sight of his 5-year-old stepdaughter in the arms of a stranger who was carrying her away across the front lawn. The man had snatched the girl out of her bed in the basement moments earlier after coming in the house through an unlocked door, police said.

The father confronted the man, demanding that he give the girl back. Without a fight, the intruder handed her over, and then fled the scene.

"There was a man in my home and he took my 5-year-old daughter," said the mother, crying, in a 911 call moments later. "I happened to wake up and he had my daughter outside. My husband ran out there and got her from him. But he took my daughter."

Scary situation.

Glad dad got the girl back, she's physically ok, and the suspect is in custody.

Just got done voting and it felt GREAT!!!!!!

Voted straight Dem except for the office of Sheriff, I was going to vote for the Dem candidate, but during the debate against the Repub. candidate, she made the comment that a UN treaty absolutely trumps the US Constitution, my jaw dropped to the ground because on her campaign signs, she claims she's the Constitutional candidate.

If you don't know the Constitution, how can you claim to be the Constitutional candidate?
Her opponent, a 31 year veteran of the Sheriff's office, is going to win and win by a large margin just because of her gaffe.
