I may have turned one today!

This afternoon I was in our local hang out/small tavern with a few of our beer club guys. It is really an establishment owned by someone who loves drinking and serving beers. There are always over 200 different ones there. The regular beer club guys are apolitical as a group, and I am sure some of the guys may vote for Trump, but they do not talk about it. Plus we are a racially diverse group which I am sure keeps the hardcore Alt-right(racist) away.

An older man and his wife came in and we welcomed them like we do all strangers-very friendly. The owner was busy in the back so we helped him pick out his beer from the cooler. No Bud, Miller or anything like that here. He settled on a very good German beer while his wife had a wine. This is a very small place, one employee on a slow Sunday afternoon-the owner.

They ended up ordering some food and had another couple of beers, joining in our conversation on and off. By this time there were only about 5 of us left and he asked a question...Does anyone here know anything about guns? There was a brief silence and I told him I was a hunter and owned several guns, what can I help him with? He wanted a small pocket .380 and was wondering where the best place to get one was. I let him know I owned a handgun and told him where I purchased it. And I asked him why did he want one?

And here it came...he wanted to get one before Hillary bans them. And the statement sat on the room like a fart. But taking the advice I have read hear, I did not attack. I hurrmphed and asked him if he had heard that Obama was going to take his guns. He answered yes. And I stated that Obama had better get busy because he only has 3 months left. The guy actually chuckled. And then I informed him that the second amendment is respected in the Democratic Party Platform and Democratic Party(I actually said Democrats, but we have language purist here!). And that we are in favor of smart gun laws.

At this point one my buddies chimed in much to my surprise. He is the most blue collar of the bunch said he would not mind limiting AR-15's and such, which really did surprise me. Realize we are in the Orlando Metro area and the Pulse event really shook us. But I was still surprised as I do know he owns guns. But we had not talked politics and I do not know how he votes. We share a love for good food and beer.

So the guy out and asked me who I was voting for. Normally I would dodge that question in a bar, but the conversation had gone well so far and I told him that I had been a conservative republican most of my life but had come to realize it was all bullshit(the word I used) and I am now a Democrat and my vote was going to Hillary.

At that point his wife screwed her courage to the sticking point and exclaimed 'I am too'. The guy was surprised, he actually said 'you are?'. After a little more back and forth the guy stated 'Trump really is kind of scary, I don't know'. And the conversation then changed away from politics.

He and his wife stayed almost 2 hours and he shook all our hands on the way out and told us how much he enjoyed meeting us and asked if he could join us next week. You know the answer. Unless he votes early I may have another shot, although I think it may be a done deal. The best part of the day was his wife speaking up!

I am still smiling about it.

Oh, and early voting starts tomorrow in Florida. By this time tomorrow night Hillary will have my vote. Unless there are too many members of the Democratic Party in line in which case I will try another time.

Have a nice evening.

Can we just say racist!!

On MSNBC the talking heads were talking about his main supporters being the alt-right. And it pissed me off. But then I realize we do the same thing here.

We cannot make the press use the most accurate description of these people. But on DU we should call them what they are. If you must use Alt right, at least put racist in parentheses.

Rant over. Have a nice evening.

Grab them by the Uterus

What trump said is disgusting. But in most places illegal. If a man grabs a woman by the pussy against her will, there is a chance he is going to prison. Granted, way too often he is in a position of power and gets away with it. But at least there is a chance for justice.

The entire republican party wants to grab all women by their uterus. Control it, own it and tell women what they can do with it. And they want to use the power of the state when they grab it.

To me that is much more troubling.

Enjoy the day.

For the first time I can say

I love Bernie. Never disliked him. Was unusual here that while leaning Hillary was not passionate either way.

But he is keeping his word and working his old ASS off for Hillary. Check out his schedule. Out of control. 2 or more appearances each day for multiple days.

Making a donation to Hillary tonight. Guess how much?

He is a total idiot. Hillary told the world her strategy...

and he still took the bait. In her speech at the convention she had the great line about a man who can be baited by a tweet not being acceptable as president.

Now granted, the Ms. Universe thing was not a tweet, but she pretty much made his inability to resist responding to an attack a major issue is the campaign. And he proceeded to validate her prediction.

I know we have lots of folks here concerned he will come back, but I think this might be the silver bullet. And the Town Hall should be a real shitstorm. He is going to come out fuming and attacking her in the most vile ways. And the audience will react the way people do when someone they are in a room with does something vile. Just the facial expressions alone will tell the story. Hell, they may even boo him if he goes too low. Because it is easy to attack someone on the internet or in front of hundreds of rabid supporters. But do it in front a group of neutrals in a peaceful environment and the reaction will be priceless.

Have a great evening. I know I am.

She sold him rope by the yard!!

I am not the smartest man in the room so it just hit me that it took about 20 minutes for Hillary to realize that Trump really is the caricature he has been made out to be. I mean, we all thought he was, but everyone of us here had the fear that he could hold it together for 90 minutes. I am sure that was a concern for the Clinton campaign. So at first she treated it like a regular debate. When she realized that he was a nervous wreck, was spouting platitudes, and was just winging it she started making some jabs. Like talking about using daddy's money to get his start.

Once a few of them hit home she just sat back and let him show the American people who he really is. This may be the most masterful debate performance I have ever seen. Not because Hillary was on top of her game, although she surely was. But because she was on top of her opponents game.

Have a nice evening.

My night just got better

I apologize before hand if any of this is disjointed. I decided bourbon was my debate night drink.

But the bourbon gave me the moxie to watch fox news. Both channels and one of the shows was Hannity.

They are not even trying to spin this as a Trump win but explaining why the Holt/Trump's advisors/Hillary having the nerve to study facts made him look so bad.

If we supporters double down on the ground game we might make this a historical win. I will donate tomorrow and will call our Democratic Party office and see if they need help personally. I have never done that before.

I have had a little too much bourbon and am going to bed now. Have a great evening.

Am I going to hell?

The custodian at work has been a very vocal supporter of Trump for months now. It is an outsourced company and I am sure he is not paid much so I just keep my mouth shut. Plus politics is not really discussed at my work place as we are a big, diverse company.

Well apparently this guy has never voted before and yesterday he confirmed that I do vote and he asked me what he needed to do.

I told him to find his nearest voting location and show up on Election Day. And now I feel a little guilty. I grew up having the importance of civics instilled in me at home, in school and even church, which I no longer attend. So the going to hell question was rhetorical.

Should I correct myself next week? If I thought I could change his vote I would in a heart beat.

Have a great weekend

What gives with all the green party shit?

As my post count tells I am pretty new here. So can someone please explain to me why there are so many threads about a candidate who is going to get less than 2% of the national vote and whose voters will never vote for Hillary anyway?

Is it Bernie or Busters trying to find a way to come here and stir shit? Or Hillary fans trying to rub their faces into it? Perhaps there are more people than I realize concerned about the effect the greens will have. Or is it folks who have been here a long time fighting battles I can not understand?

I mean, they do not really bother me, but if I wanted to talk about leftist wingnuts I would go to other sites.

Have a nice evening.

LBJ was so very wrong.

He predicted that signing the Civil Rights act would cost the Democratic Party the South for a generation. He could not predict the cynicism and duplicity of the Republicans of the time since he saw Goldwater as a fluke. He never thought that the party of Lincoln would stoop to using the 'Southern Strategy' they ended up using. Playing to the racism in the South. Especially since Republicans had been key to passing the law in the first place.

But they did. And perhaps this is the best gift Trump is giving us. He has no guiding principle and no beliefs. And it is apparent that he is the candidate of the most reactionary, bigoted and small thinking of our electorate.

The south is finally getting to see what bigotry, boiled down to it's most concentrated essence looks like. It seem that there is at least a stirring of folks rejecting it when Virginia is a solid Democratic state and NC is considered a likely win. Even Georgia is being talked about in good terms. And my current state, Florida, is going to go blue for the 3rd straight time.

My family has been southern for over 400 years. I pray that before I die the region returns to the Democratic party, but the one of LBJ not Jackson.
