Why the media never stops covering Trump

I've thought a lot about why the mainstream media has obsessively covered Trump since he lost re-election and left office 2 years ago.

The only theory I have is that the media and most Americans see Trump and his supporters as domestic terrorists who are an ongoing threat to our national security. So the media figures they have to cover Trump similar to how they covered Bin Laden and Al-Queda after they attacked us on September 11th.

Many Americans were understandably still afraid of another terrorist attack years after 9/11 even though Bin Laden was living in a cave and his movement had been severely crippled.

After January 6th a lot of Americans and our allies around the world are fearful Trump may return to power or stage another coup attempt if he loses. Even though his power has diminished since 2020.

So I guess the media can't ignore Trump entirely. There's a public interest in keeping an eye on this corrupt traitor and his fascist movement. So as annoying as it is seeing his name in the headlines I'm afraid it's necessary.

After 9/11 Homeland Security put out a terror threat level guide every week. I see the coverage of Trump as similar to that.

Trump Derangement Syndrome or MAGA Derangement Syndrome?

I definitely feel like Trump and his MAGA Republican party are making me feel like I'm losing my mind.

I had this wild idea that when a Presidential candidate loses an election by 7 million votes and 74 electoral votes and in the process costs them control of the House and Senate that the political party would find someone else to nominate for President. I thought wrong.

I had this crazy notion that a losing candidate who tried to overturn his election loss by inciting an insurrection to overthrow the government would be prosecuted or at the very least barred from holding elected office ever again. Again I was totally wrong.

After 8 years of dealing with Trump and his enablers it basically comes down to: All Americans like myself who didn't vote for this guy and never will are trapped in this dyfunctional family called the United States. I see Trump as the abusive parent who in spite of his abhorrent behavior is still supported by 40% of the household no matter what he does. Meanwhile the majority of the family tries desperately to kick the guy out of the home, cut ties with the relatives who stand by him and try to shut the door on the past and get on with their lives.

So yeah I definitely have Trump/MAGA Derangement Syndrome. And a lot of people I know have it too. If Trump keeps running for President (until the day he dies) we may need a worldwide 12 step program to help people cope with his insanity.

It reminds me of that classic Saturday Night Live sketch, "The Thing That Wouldn't Leave."
From the Christopher Lee Halloween 1978 episode with John Belushi.
"It came without warning! They were just being POLITE! They didn’t realize thart they’d be stuck with… “The Thing That Wouldn’t Leave”!
"It came from beyond the grave! A creature SO rude, SO inconsiderate… they thought it would NEVER leave!
“The Thing That Wouldn’t Leave”! Held over 5th week at neighborhood theaters. It may never leave!"

This is the lamest Watergate spin off yet

Ever since 1972 DC reporters have been pursuing their own "Woodward & Bernstein" moment where they discover a huge political scandal that brings down an administration and wins them a Pulitzer prize for excellence in journalism.

Have to say this "Biden classified documents scandal" is the lamest Watergate spinoff yet.

Main reason is there's no mystery here. Biden's team investigated itself, found potentially classified documents and gave them to the national archive. The Justice Department launched an investigation and the Biden administration has cooperated fully. And continues to do so.

At least with Iran Contra, Monica-gate and Hillary's emails their was some mystery as to what exactly happened and why.

I think this is why reporters and House Republicans are having a hard time turning this story into a Watergate type seismic event that engages the public. Biden isn't Nixon or Trump and the public knows that. He's not the strongest communicator but he's definitely not a criminal and isn't trying to cover up his error.

Personally I find the "Trump and House Republicans tried to overturn the results of a free and fair election and are still at it" scandal a lot more interesting. But the media moved on from that as soon as the 1/6 report was released.

We're witnessing "both-sides journalism" at its most desperate right now. And as CNN is finding out, it's a big snooze fest.

Biden's lawyers are killing him politically

By leaking everytime they find a classified document. And then backtracking. And then changing their minds. Why not conduct a thorough search and then announce what they have or haven't found?

The way their handled this matter from day one has been idiotic. Plus they keep knocking the White House communications team off balance by dropping bombshells every news cycle.

All this is making it look like Biden is trying to cover up the truth from the American public.
Which he isn't. But the headlines couldn't look worse politically.

No good deed goes unpunished

So over 2 months ago the Biden team discovers some classified documents and immediately does the right thing and gives them to the national archives.

After the National Archives notifies the Justice Department Garland immediately orders a Trump appointee to investigate the matter. A member of the investigative team then informs the media about the matter the week Republicans take back control of the House.

Biden's lawyers conduct a thorough search to make sure there aren't any additional classified documents in storage. They find some, immediately return the documents and notify the Justice Department. In response Garland appoints a Special Counsel. A former judge picked by Trump.

This all started with Biden and his staffers doing the right thing. The National Archives didn't even know classified documents were missing. Now it's turned into a criminal investigation that will probably lead to his impeachment and cast a shadow over the remainder of Biden's presidency and
re-election campaign.

No good deed goes unpunished. The Biden legal team has bent over backwards to cooperate with Garland and his Trumpist investigators. And it's blown up in their faces.

And the worst part about this is Trump isn't going to be indicted for anything federally. Jack Smith might as well shut down his office. Unless the DA in Fulton County or NYC announce charges Teflon Don will escape accountability once again.

All we can do at this point is block out the media noise and Republicans faux outrage.
Biden and his legal counsel will continue to do the right thing by cooperating fully. And like with Hillary's emails he will get crucified for his mistake by the "liberal" media.

This is why people hate politics and don't watch the news.

House Republicans are exhausting but predictable

Anyone paying attention to politics the last 10 years knew exactly what Republicans would do if they took back the House.

Sure it's exhausting and annoying watching them govern the exact same way they've governed since being overtaken by the Tea Party in 2012.

But it's also utterly predictable and boring.

What would be shocking is if they didn't hold countless investigations based on right wing conspiracies, pass extremist legislation, refuse to lift the debt ceiling and shutdown the government rather than pass a budget

They're running the same old playbook. And hopefully in 2 years they get voted out of the majority once again.

The media is loving this Republican comeback

For 2 years the cable news networks were salivating for a return to divided government. Breathlessly speculating that Republicans would take back the House. Well they got their wish.

They basically did the GQP's work for them by bashing Democrats for high inflation, gas prices and a "crisis" at the border while never asking what the whiny Republicans plan was to address those problems. They did a total disservice to voters.

Now the media gets endless melodrama about Hunter Biden's laptop, debt celing showdowns and whether the insurrectionist lawmakers will be able to obstruct investigations into their own insurrection.

It will be good for their ratings and horrible for American democracy.

Meanwhile people who voted these fascists back in office will soon have buyer's remorse and decide Washington is broken and both parties are to blame.

We could have had 2 year more of competent, unified government but here we are. Back to 2018 with Jim Jordan and his sedition caucus trying to destroy government and the world economy just to prove it doesn't work.

Thank you New York for this return to Trumpist insanity.

When reading the January 6th report

When reading the January 6th Report I'm repeatedly amazed that Donald Trump isn't locked up in a Supermax prison right now for treason.

And the fact he has the nerve to actually run to be President again shows he's a true sociopath with no conscience.

If Trump isn't held accountable for his one man (ongoing) crime spree against America our democracy is truly broken. And he could end up back in power again like Netanyahu. Hell he's already the shadow Speaker of the house.

It's not too late for Garland or the DA's in Georgia and New York to do the right thing and indict this traitor. They better hurry though.

Media's getting played by Trump again

Like in 2016 and 2020 the cable news networks are falling for Trump's online trolling yet again.

For 7 years they've been Trump's stenographers. He'll do or tweet something horrific, the media will repeat it verbatim, ask the Republicans to condemn him (LOL) and the scandal will be quickly forgotten.
And when it does die down Trump will immediately say or do something even more obnoxious and the pattern repeats.

Meanwhile Trump keeps his name in the headlines, dominates the news cycle and his control over the Republican party only gets stronger.

That's because the media hasn't figured out its the Republican VOTERS who won't abandon Trump. They keep nominating him to be their President no matter how racist, misogynistic and authoritarian he becomes.

I think they should stop taking the bait. Trump shouldn't be able to tweet (or truth) something while he's on the toilet and that suddenly become the most important story of the day.

Do better media.

Bottom line on the Repugs investigations

Bottom line on all the investigations House Republicans have planned... who cares?

- They can't prosecute anybody criminally.
- They've shown that congressional subpoenas mean nothing and can be stonewalled using the courts..
' They can impeach anyone they want but the Senate will never convict.

The Republican Senate investigated Hunter Biden in 2020 and found nothing to connect his business mistakes to Joe Biden. If they had you better believe they would have made it public before the election and Attorney General Barr would have prosecuted the case.

The biggest challenge in the next 2 years is going to be for the media. Will they cover these endless Republican circus hearings as actual news or ignore them?
