We should be looking for truth, not what you can make people believe

Remember how MAGA was all upset because their 2020 October surprise, the Hunter Biden laptop story, didn't work out the way they wanted? They wanted people to vote based on something that was not proven, and would never be proven.

Now 3 years later they still haven't proven anything they claimed back then.

It makes me sick that we have a political party in this country that want people to vote, not based on the truth, but rather based on what they've led people to believe.

What am I missing...

All this crap about Joe Biden being the "brand" seems to have taken place during a time he wasn't vice president, and wasn't in any government role. Was not Bobulinski talking about a May 2017 meeting? Biden was not VP then!

Update on my sit down with a Trump supporter

A few weeks ago I had a sit down with a Trump supporter. Here is a link to that first post: https://www.democraticunderground.com/100218725536

Although at times I thought I was dealing with a reasonable person, I have come to the conclusion that I've been wasting my time.

The positive:
I got him to see some things he was not aware of about Trump, things like Trump's quote about "terminating" rules in the Constitution.
I got him to realize the Mueller Report had been misrepresented by Bill Barr.
I succeeded in getting him to agree with me that Trump has done things that are bad for democracy and the country, like casting doubt on our elections.

The negative:
He will still vote for Trump.

The reason:
He claims that Democrats are "woke", promote "communism" and want to "kill babies". I kid you not. These are the reasons he has given for still wanting to vote for Trump. I don't know whether he's just dicking with me, or if he actually believes this BS, but I left feeling totally insulted for my efforts, and will not be going back.

I'm done!

Remember all the republicans that claimed Trump wouldn't be the nominee?

From Bill Barr and Mitch McConnel to Mike Pence, they were all asked in interviews whether they would support the orange stain. They all spinelessly avoided the answer by claiming he wouldn't get the nod.

Georgia Judge drops 3 charges from Trump election interference case

I heard this on the radio on my way home just now.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/national-security/2024/03/13/trump-georgia-election-case-charges-dropped/

ATLANTA — A Georgia judge dismissed three of the 13 charges against former president Donald Trump and some of the charges against his allies in the sweeping election inference case, but declined to dismiss the entire indictment.

In a nine-page order issued Wednesday, Fulton County Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee dismissed six of the 41 counts in the indictment against Trump and his allies, who are accused of conspiring to try to overturn the 2020 presidential election in Georgia. All of the dismissed charges are related to pressure that Trump or five of his co-defendants allegedly put on state officials to change the results.

“As written, these six counts contain all the essential elements of the crimes but fail to allege sufficient detail regarding the nature of their commission, i.e., the underlying felony solicited,” McAfee wrote.

The judge added: “This does not mean the entire indictment is dismissed.” McAfee pointedly declined a defense request challenging the overt acts tied to charges — meaning they are still part of the overall indictment. Prosecutors can still present evidence related to the dropped charges as they argue that Trump and his allies criminally conspired to try to overturn the election.

Does anybody have a good link to Drumpf's entire Elipse speech from Jan 6?

I've been having a hard time finding the whole thing. I need it for research, and to be able to show a Magat how many times Trump didn't mention peace and love. I can find a lot of short excerpts, but I need the whole thing uncut.

For all the Magats out there who think it's great Trump likes the way Orban leads Hungary...

It never gets mentioned, but Hungary has some very strict gun laws. Your guy Trump loves him an autocrat who would trash your favorite right if he had his way.

I think it's purposely being kept from you just how embracing autocracy can backfire. They tell you what you want to hear about taking away the rights of others, but leave out the parts you won't want to hear. Just saying.

My sit down with a Trump supporter

I'm making an effort to sit down with Trump supporters and discuss our differences and maybe get a little common ground to start some understanding. My first sit down was today over coffee. Here is my takeaway.

The positives:
The person I talked to was not aware that Trump had ever made a comment about "terminating the Constitution". I took it as a positive when the person agreed that such a comment would be un- American and against the Constitution. We agreed that I would send him a link to the quote.

The person I talked to was totally unaware that the Mueller Report found that Russia had interfered with the 2016 election, and that it was done to the benefit of Trump. He had only heard Trump's version of "total exoneration". I agreed to lend him my copy of the report with the appropriate pages marked.

The person had not listened to Trump's infamous call to Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, and was not aware of it's threatening nature. He agreed to listen to it with an open mind.

The person agreed that presidents should not have full immunity, and that such an idea runs opposite to what the Founding Fathers would have intended.

The person agrees that Putin is bad and should be stopped from taking Ukraine.

The negatives:
The person I talked to thinks there is a diabolical plot to groom kids through "wokeness". I couldn't get him to budge on this notion.

The person I talked to thinks Trump is "just saying things" when it comes to talk of "retribution" and comments about not protecting NATO allies. He thinks Trump is just full of harmless bluster. When asked if he would excuse such bluster from Biden, he got uncomfortable and claimed it would be different because "Trump is Trump" and coming from him "everybody knows it's just bluster".

The person I talked to thinks the fake elector scheme is just part of some legal debate.

The person I talked to thinks the border is "wide open" and criminals are just pouring in.

Worst of all the negatives: so far this person is still going to vote for Trump if he is the nominee.

For what it's worth that's how it went.
