Question about passing legislation after midterms

Let's say that after the mid-terms, the Dems gain seats in the Senate but lose control of the house.

Let's say that there's legislation that has been passed by the House (codifying Roe, voting rights) that has languished in the Senate.

Let's say that by picking up seats, Dems abolish the filibuster.

Can Dems pass the legislation that has already been passed to them by the House? I would assume that it would need to be passed as is so that it doesn't go back to the House?

Or are the mid-terms a "re-set" button on legislation and we have to start all over?

Breaking: Colorado reports first U.S. case of COVID-19 variant

On Tuesday, Gov. Jared Polis confirmed Colorado's first case of the COVID-19 variant B.1.1.7, the same variant discovered in the U.K. According to ABC News, this is believed to be the first known case of the variant in the U.S.

State public health officials report the patient is a man in his 20s, who is currently in isolation in Elbert County and has not traveled recently.

Edited to add: Elbert County is rural with a small population. If it's there, it's everywhere.

Only one public appearance in a week

Other than his extremely brief visit to Arlington yesterday, Trump has not appeared in public since his lie-filled press conference after the election a week ago. It's been one full week since we've had to hear his whiny voice or see his dumb face or watch his ridiculous, tiny accordion hands. Has he ever gone this long without putting himself in the public eye? I don't think I realized how stressful it's been to be under the constant barrage of having to see and hear him. This week has been a relief!

I know there are machinations going on behind the scenes, and sure, he's still tweeting. But to me, his reluctance to be seen in public seems to be the greatest indicator that Trump KNOWS he's a loser and is deeply humiliated. If he truly thought he was winning, or could win, he would be holding press conferences, arranging rallies, and crowing every chance he got. But...nothing. Just the sounds of beautiful, glorious silence.

Does anyone else feel like...

Does anyone else feel like Trump made a deal with the devil at the crossroads and payment is coming due?

Children without a mother

My sister is a physician and one of the patients who visits her clinic just died of COVID. She leaves behind 5 children under the age of 14. These kids will grow up without a mother because of Trump's words and actions. And her story is just one of the over 200,000 families devastated so far. Telling people that it's "nothing to be afraid of" will lead to even more.

All I will say is that I hope with all my heart that he reaps what he has sown.

Saw Michelle Obama last night

A friend of mine and I went to her book tour in Denver. It was electric! She was SO funny and warm and intelligent and compassionate. I miss having people like that in the White House. Makes my heart ache.

My husband is a registered Republican

Has been since the days of Reagan. He views himself as fiscally conservative but socially liberal. He also - unlike most of today's Republicans - has incredible critical thinking skills and has always prided himself on looking at and voting for each candidate based on their merits. He voted for Obama twice and for HRC in the last election.

The other day I was talking about the elections and who was going to be on the ticket. He said, "You know what? I'm going to stop you right there. I'm making it easy on myself and voting straight Dem." At first I thought he was joking but then he said, "Any chance I have to stick it to these f*ckers, I'll take it."

For him to say he's voting straight Blue without even looking at the candidates is pretty remarkable and I think part of a sea change that's going on for SOME in the party. I know he's in the minority but we don't need the majority. We just need enough people like my husband who can clearly see what's going on and refuse to support the continued downfall of our country. He gave me hope and I'll take all I can get right about now.

TED Talk: How (and why) Russians hacked the US election

This is a TED Talk by cyberspace analyst, Laura Galante, from April 2017. It boils down how all this happened in frightening but understandable detail. Well worth the watch. (Sorry, not sure how to put the actual video in the body of this post.)
