Two major pet peeves for me

One: The asswipe companies who pay people to say "I owed 66 thousand dollars in taxes and blah, blah, blah helped me so that I only had to pay $500." YOU OWED THE FUCKING TAXES!!!! PAY YOUR TAXES JUST LIKE I DO!!!!!

Two: Asswipes driving in downpours with NO LIGHTS ON!!! Especially when they are driving GREY vehicles!!!! TURN YOUR FUCKING LIGHTS ON...NOT ONLY IS IT THE LAW, it's just smart.

ok, rant off.

Reported today in my city, with a population of 186,542, that around 35% will not get vaccinated.

As in refusing to get vaccinated. The news had a couple of people stating why and one of them made me particularly mad. The reason for not getting vaccinated? "I will put my faith in God".

I wanted so much to be able to ask this person a couple of questions. But the first one that came to mind was, if you were in a wreck and had a big gash in your side and were bleeding to death, would you "put your faith in God" to keep you from dying, or would you allow medical personnel to treat you?

I'm sure there are more reasonable and measured questions that should be asked of these people, but that was my first thought.

Just picked up my taxes from my accountant

I run a small business. A very small business that keeps my wife and I above water. I am paying 2K more this year than I did the last two years, while my gross income was less than those two years.

I don't mind paying the taxes. I really don't. What made me really, really mad was what my accountant of 20 years said to my wife, who picked them up for us today. Paraphrasing, "Yeah, they were higher this year, but brace yourself for next year after Biden has "his way" with the tax code. It's gonna make this year look like a picnic."

To be honest, it's a good thing it wasn't me picking up those documents. I would have probably ruined a friendship of 20 years. I was furious after my wife relayed this to me. I think my exact statement was, "it makes me so upset when otherwise smart people are so FUCKING STUPID!!"

rant off.

Price of lumber

Wifey wants me to replace the deck. It truly needs it. So, I start looking for wood to do so.

The same piece of lumber I bought at this time last year for just a bit more than $6 is now almost $20.

That new deck will have to wait.

I read earlier that it now cost an average of $20K more for lumber to build a house now than it did a year ago. And there is no sign of it going back down before 2022 at the earliest.

Question about the price gouging in Texas that the billionaires are bragging about

I've been through dozens and dozens of hurricanes, all the way back to Camille in 1969. After each one (almost every one) there have been laws that made it illegal to price gouge for anything, including water and gas.
Why are these asswipes being allowed to price gouge during this emergency in Texas?

I love Stan Van Gundy re: anthem

On Tuesday night, it was reported that the Dallas Mavericks had decided to stop playing the national anthem before home games this season, a choice led by owner Mark Cuban. And, as you'd expect, such a significant change from what has been tradition for years and years would lead to both positive and negative opinions of the decision.

One prominent figure who supported the move was New Orleans Pelicans head coach and longtime NBA fixture Stan Van Gundy. The former Heat, Magic and Pistons head coach and two-time All-Star Game head coach expressed his thoughts on Twitter.

"This should happen everywhere," Van Gundy wrote. "If you think the anthem needs to be played before sporting events, then play it before every movie, concert, church service and the start of every work day at every business. What good reason is there to play the anthem before a game?"

Stan!!!!!

Jaguars' Urban Meyer makes controversial hire in Chris Doyle

Why does this not surprise me in the least. Meyers is SCUM!!!! FUCK YOU URBAN.

....Before he can get to tweaking the roster, however, he needed to complete the task of finalizing his coaching staff on offense, defense and special teams, and he's now done just that. The team formally announced Meyer's complete staff a few days after Super Bowl LV, and while it's mostly garnered praise from football minds who see it as a strong foundation for Meyer's inaugural season at the professional level, one hire in particular instantly created a slew of raised eyebrows around the league -- namely Chris Doyle.

His departure from the University of Iowa last June was marred with controversy when Doyle, then a 20-year veteran of the program and highest-paid strength and conditioning coach in the country, was put on administrative leave following a list of African-American players alleging Doyle treated them negatively and unfairly because of their race. His new job under Meyer will be the first since the Hawkeyes divorced him, and it's already drawing criticism.
