Supreme Court temporarily halts court order requiring accountants to turn over Trump's tax returns t

Source: CNBC

The Supreme Court on Monday temporarily blocked a ruling that requires President Donald Trump’s longtime accounting firm to turn over his tax returns to Congress.

The temporary stay order signed by Chief Justice John Roberts gives the Democratic-controlled House Committee on Oversight and Reform until Thursday to respond. The document did not note any public votes or dissents.

The move was expected and does not provide new information about how the justices may ultimately vote on the matter. It generally requires five votes to grant a stay, though in some cases one justice may do so pending review by the full court.

Earlier in the day, attorneys for House Democrats said in a letter they would not oppose a temporary delay in enforcing the subpoena to allow the court time to consider arguments on both sides. The committee said in the letter that it would provide its response on Friday.

I met Kirsten Gillibrand today in a restaurant!

So today I was in a restaurant in Staten Island called Z-One around noon. I saw my local City Councilman eating, who I have met many times. As I walked past him, I said hello. He said hi back, and said "look who's with me, Kirsten Gillibrand." He then said to her how I'm "a huge political junkie." She extended her hand out, and we briefly chatted.

I was so excited because she was the highest ranking politician that I have ever met. Very nice person too!

Hillary Clinton says 'many, many, many people' pressuring her to consider 2020 presidential run

Source: CNN

Washington (CNN)Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Tuesday said "many, many, many people" were pressuring her to consider a 2020 presidential bid, but held that it is "absolutely not in my plans."

"I, as I say, never, never, never say never and I will certainly tell you I'm under enormous pressure from many, many, many people to think about it," Clinton told BBC Radio. "But as of this moment, sitting here in this studio talking to you, that is absolutely not in my plans."

CNN previously reported that Clinton, the 2016 Democratic nominee, has been taking calls from other members of her party asking her to enter the 2020 race, but it remains unlikely she would do so.

After Trump tweeted last month that Clinton should enter the race to "steal it away from Uber Left Elizabeth Warren," Clinton shot back in a tweet: "Don't tempt me. Do your job."

Former President Jimmy Carter hospitalized to relieve pressure in brain

Source: CBS News

Former President Jimmy Carter was hospitalized Monday night for a procedure to relieve pressure on his brain caused by bleeding, The Carter Center said in a statement. The bleeding was caused by Mr. Carter's recent falls, the statement explained.

"President Carter is resting comfortably and his wife, Rosalynn, is with him," according to the statement. The procedure will take place Tuesday morning at the Emory University Hospital in Atlanta.

CBS News medical contributor Dr. David Agus said that the procedure is normally quick. "Basically, they're just drilling a small hole in the brain and draining the fluid that is causing the pressure," Agus told CBSN. "So the procedure itself — you could be in the operating room, say, an hour."

Mr. Carter, who is 95, has had a number of health scares in recent years. In 2015, he announced he had been diagnosed with cancer that had spread to his liver and brain. He stepped back from responsibility at The Carter Center, but he continued teaching Sunday school classes in his hometown of Plains, Georgia. It's a tradition he started in his teens that has gained a wide following.

Republican Lt. Gov. Reeves wins Mississippi governor's race

Source: Associated Press

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — Republicans are keeping their hold on the governorship in Mississippi, despite facing the best-funded Democrat to run for the position in more than a decade.

Lt. Gov. Tate Reeves on Tuesday defeated Democratic Attorney General Jim Hood and two candidates who ran low-budget campaigns.

Reeves will succeed Gov. Phil Bryant, who is limited by state law to two terms.

President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence both traveled to Mississippi in recent days to campaign for Reeves, who is completing his second term as lieutenant governor after serving two terms as the elected state treasurer.

Any Kentucky or Mississippi governor's race predictions?

Republicans hold both seats now. Do we have a chance in Mississippi? I know Kentucky is very close.
