Vidal's JournalWhy Democrats had to dump Franken
Source: Politico
"A year into Donald Trumps presidency, many voters still dont know what Democrats stand for so at the very least, party leaders reluctantly decided, they better take a stand against sexual harassment.
Especially when theyre going to need a huge turnout among women to do what now still seems like a reach, but six months ago seemed impossible: flip the House and maybe even the Senate, and rally in races for governor and state legislature across the country next year.
For the last decade, Democrats have been pointing the finger at the Republican Party for devaluing women, said Guy Cecil, chairman of Priorities USA and the executive director of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee during the 2012 and 2014 cycles. This is a requirement to be able to look at them with a straight face and say were the party that cares about them.
As long as Republicans dont do that, theres a very sharp contrast to be drawn. And theres no question that women not only make up a majority of the voting population, but across the country, of both political parties, are sick and tired of the sexual harassment theyre facing in all sorts of work places, said Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-Wash.), who has been at the forefront of calling on Democrats accused of harassment to step down."

The party needs a clean contrast with Republicans heading into the 2018 midterms.
If the Democrats don't do this they are screwed.
Every member of the party in Congress, the DNC and everywhere must EVERY DAY remind America and the press that we have a serial sex abuser in the White House.
He's been getting a free pass on this because he won the election, as if that ended the discussion about his crimes.
Huck Sander said the election "litigated the issue" in Trump's favor but this is not true.
We need leaders who will keep litigating this issue against Trump every day through press release, interviews, and everywhere else they can think of.
If we don't then Trump gets away with it and the Franken sacrifice is all for naught.
"I'm ashamed that so many 'liberals' decry holding sexual harassers like Al Franken accountable"

"The hypocrisy Ive seen within the progressive communityparticularly on this sitemakes me sick. Ive seen many people feign a moral superiority over conservatives openly supporting sexual predators like Trump and Roy Moore. But the progressives fighting tooth and nail to defend Al Franken (and throw all survivors under the bus as a result)? Youre no better than them.
Dont be mad that Al Franken is resigning. Be mad that Franken is a groper and his behavior led to this ouster in the first place. If he didnt grope women we wouldnt be having this conversation. He wouldnt have to resign. This is womens real lives and trauma at stake. We cant have a just society if we allow leaders who harm women with impunity to stay in power.
"Al Franken can be replaced. Al Franken will be replaced. Al Franken should be replaced. We can have a progressive take his place who ISNT a sexually abusing hypocrite. Isnt that better?"

"I have very little doubt that this is the best outcome for the Democratic Party"
said Ruth Marcus on MSNBC
And I agree. It takes away a line of attack that the Repugs have been making against Dems.
Good move!
This will help in 2018.
Sanders: Trump should think about resigning over sexual misconduct allegations
"Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) early Thursday said President Trump should think about resigning over the sexual misconduct allegations brought up against him during the 2016 presidential campaign.
"We have a president of the United States who acknowledged on a tape widely seen all over the country that he's assaulted women, so I would hope maybe the president of the United States might pay attention of what's going on and also think about resigning," Sanders said on "CBS This Morning," referring to the "Access Hollywood" tape that emerged last year.
The senator went on to emphasize the need for a cultural revolution to address sexual misconduct.
"What I worry about right now, as we speak, in restaurants and in offices all over this country where you have bosses who are not famous, there is harassment of women and women are being intimidated. We need a cultural revolution in this country," he said."

The Choice Between the Parties in 2018
Democrats in Congress are adopting a zero-tolerance policy toward sexual harassment, while Republicans are giving full support to a pedophile in Alabama and the serial sex offender in the White House.
This is the choice voters will have between the two parties in the 2018 elections.
This will help Democrats.
Let Every Democrat Resign!
If they have been sexually harassing women, then get them out of Congress!
Get every Democrat offender out of Congress!
Then the only people left in Congress who are sex abusers will be Republicans.
Plus Trump.
That will help Dems in the 2018 elections.
10 legal experts on why Trump cant pardon his way out of the Russia investigation
Source: Vox.com
by Sean Illing; @seanilling
"On August 25, President Trump pardoned former Maricopa County, Arizona, Sheriff Joe Arpaio. Arpaio was convicted in July of criminal contempt after ignoring a court order to cease his signature immigration roundups but hadnt yet been sentenced. Trump ignored the courts judgment and ended the case without any formal Justice Department review.
To some, Trumps decision is a sign that hes preparing or at least willing to pardon people associated with the growing investigation into his campaigns possible collusion with Russia. Robert Bauer, a law professor at New York University and former White House counsel to President Obama, argued in the Washington Post that the pardon may be a test run for shutting down the Russia investigation.
I reached out to 10 legal experts and asked them if the Arpaio decision is a signal of how Trump might seek to undercut the Russia investigation. I also asked what it would mean for the investigation if Trump pardoned key players in the scandal like Paul Manafort, Michael Flynn, or Jared Kushner before any of them could be convicted.
While its impossible to predict what Trump will do, nearly all the experts I spoke to agree on one thing: If Trump does use his pardoning powers to thwart the Russia investigation, its very likely to backfire."

Kushner and Flynn Could Be Guilty of a Capital Crime
Under federal law, "espionage" is a capital offense and if found guilty, those convicted of espionage could face the death penalty.
"Espionage" is defined as the crime of spying on the federal government and/or transferring state secrets on behalf of a foreign country. (If the other country is an enemy, espionage may be treason, which involves aiding an enemy.) The term applies particularly to the act of collecting military, industrial, and political data about one nation for the benefit of another."
Rumors are that Mueller has the evidence to charge both Flynn and Kushner with espionage. This is why Flynn is totally cooperating. He is Mueller's bitch now and will do what he is told.
Not sure how Ivanka feels about her hubby facing a choice of either being charged with a capital crime or flipping on her daddy and sending him to jail (or at least out of the White House).
Stay tuned. This could get interesting.
